I am just getting started in taking the steps to have the gastric by pass surgery done. I have prayed a lot about this and done my research and still want to know more. Currently I have type 2 diabetes, neuropathy in both my feet. Two deteriorating  disk in my lower back, sleep apnea and asthma. I work a full time job that keeps me on my feet and takes everything out of me. I have tried diets and exercise. The most I have lost was 35 pounds and put it all back on and them some. I feel this is the right thing for me to do. Am I a little scared? You bet however I am in constant pain now and have been for more than 10 years mainly because of my back. I have a lot of support from family and friends, but I am wanting to hear from those who have had it done. I see mostly complaints, is there any good?

You may want to try the RNY board - this one is specifically about complications.

If you are reliant on NSAID pain medicines then you won't  be able to take them after a RNY.  The DS would allow you to take those and it also has the highest rate of weight loss, loss maintained and resolution of comorbidities.  It is very malabsorptive so you would have to take a lot of vitamins, as you would with the RNY.  The sleeve isn't malabsorptive and allows you to continue taking NSAIDs.  You may want to check each board to find out more.

Thank you Ladytazz, I appreciate your input. Yes my doctor told me about that, I will have to find something else to deal with the pain. Something I still have to look into. My first 3 hour meeting is this Friday, I should get an ear full of what you mentioned and so much more.
