2.5 years since I had my RNY REVERSED
Please see an Endocrinologist. If you are testing Hyperthyroid, you need to be treated properly. Hyperthyroidism is nothing to fool with. First off - are you are thyroid medication? IF so, then you are on too much and need your medication lowered ASAP. IF you aren't then you need testing to find out why you are hyperthyroid - hyper is very rare on its own when not due to over medication. This is also a major cause for excess weight loss, irritability and rapid heartbeat. Please get checked out ASAP>
No I have yet to see the Endo doc, the wait was for one month to get for appt. In the meantime I was scoped last Friday and the surgeon dialated my pouch, everything was narrow and no food could pass through and found an ulcer....more med's!!!! Sick of it! i take more prescriptions & supplements than my grandmother. Thanks for helping me through this.
RNY on 12/09/94
I had my surgery when I was 16 yrs old. I am 33 now and just had a reversal about 1 month ago. I developed an ulcer that was causing obstruction below my stomach and couldnt get anything down so my surgeon (Not my bariatric surgeon because he is retired) decided to do a full reversal. I am really happy that he did. I was so malnourished and have been feeling really bad for about 5 years or so.
Currently since I was on liquids for almost 2 months I am at 130 lbs. Looking for a goal weight of around 165. I am still really weak too and have a huge open scar on my abdomen due to getting an infection at the hospital and had to open incision and let heal open. Just glad I can eat again and looking forward to feeling better.

What I'm worried about is how long my surgeon will wait until he makes his decision...my appt is July 25th and I just want to say, "I want a reversal!" end of story. At my weight 108 lbs and the thyroid problem as of now, I am not in the mood for wasted talk about my condition....he needs to understand how this is effecting my life and my families. I went out with my hubby and friends and overhreard others remarking how "boney & unhealthy" I looked. I wasn't embarrassed, but felt like the eyes of judgment were upon me. I went into the bathroom that had a full length MIRROR and almost didn't recognize the reflection...I thought to myself how unhealthy and boney I did look.
So I wrote a list to read to my surgeon on the issues I deal with daily:
_VOMITING
-GAGGING
-NAUSEA
-HEADACHES
---FATIGUE
--CONFUSION
---DIZZINESS
---NO HUNGER
---INSOMINA
----ANXIETY
----DEPRESSION
----DEPLETION
---WEIGHT LOSS
Thanks for replying and helping me throught this difficult time, hopefully I will experience better days ahead too.

Wow!! I'm so sorry that you are experiencing complications, and I can definately understand where you are coming from. I too have been experiencing the same symptoms as you described for the last 4 almost 5 months since I had the RNY surgery. I have been seen by numerous specialist and psychologists and few agree that I need a reversal (which I agree as well) because I am not getting better, but worse. But then there are the few that totally disagree and have even gone as far as telling me that "NO ONE" gets a reversal of the surgery (all lies). I am still searching and seeking help because I know if I continue down this path I'm going to be in serious trouble and could be facing death. I even had one doctor tell me that nausea, vomiting, major depression, and not eating was no reason to have a reversal of the surgery and maybe I'll just have to be on a surgically inserted feeding tube for life if I can't eat. This is no way to live and I know it's only been a few months, but I have been on every medication for the nausea and even have tried holistic remedies and nothing is working. I pray that your surgeon does not give you a hassel when you ask for a reversal, because we all know what is going on in our bodies and if something is not right. I refuse to take no for an answer at this point because right now I have no life and I am solely dependent on others for my care and the care of my daughter because I just can't do it on my own anymore. I hope that your surgeon really listens to you and what you are experiencing on a daily bases. So many doctors don't listen because they are so bent on their statistics and success stories that they don't want to hear anything against the surgery. All I can say is don't take "NO" for an answer. You know what is best for you and your family. I hope all goes well for you...and if you don't mind please keep me updated, I would like to know your progress and I'll do the same.
Hi Gus,
I noticed that you are in CA. Did you have your reversal in CA as well? If so, can you tell me who your surgeon was and if it was hard to get your reversal approved. I have Kaiser and I know they will do it as long as it's medically necessary, but I'm finding it difficult to find a doctor who will stand up and say yes, it's medically necessary.

My friends,
Here is where it stands with me as of today. I was scoped and the surgeon dialated my pouch, the narrowing to my pouch was extreme, no food could barely pass through, found an ulcer too! Says I'll probably have to the procedure again and blamed me for not coming in sooner. My iron was low, put 60mgs per day and now have to drink my ulcer crap 4 times a day. He says i should start to be able to eat meat and hold it down....we'll see? I'm still not convinced I want to continue with having it not REVERSED, but damn these surgeons don't want to talk about it.
