Has anyone had a leak that took over 4 months to heel. I had an abscess post op RNY and I am still having an issue with the leak sealing up and am just wondering if this is common. I really want this leak to heel so that I can get my life back to normal. I am lucky I have supportive people at work and they are OK with my being off as long as it takes. I will be applying for LTIP and hope they will permit to remain off until this heels. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I had surgery for a Sleeve in May 2009 with a leak that would not hold sutures (they tried twice after the initial surgery) and it didn't heal up until Jan/Feb 2010.  In fact, it had healed up once or twice but both times opened back up so I had to be on a feeding tube until it was absolutely healed.  Totally sucked.  Do not push your luck with it since its easy to open them back up if they are not 100% healed through and through.  I know this from personal experience.  :/    Sorry you're going through this.  I know how tough it is.

My 26year old healthy daughter has two leaks, after 3 weeks after gastric sleeve surgery, doctor placed a stent which causes spasm vomiting, chest pain and hicups, after 4 days, aan upper gi xray was done and found that their is still a leak around stent, doctor wants to stop tube feeding and do another operation to insert tube feeding on lower intestine, but not sure if is beneficial to tsmove stent or leave it on, and let time heal it, they do not want to suture it back since gastric sleeve was just done a month ago and it is still too inflamed, pls give me advise, i am desperaye and broken hearted, she is in northwestern. Hi,
I had a DS, not a RnY, but I did have a leak.  Mine did not heal on it's own as the MDs were hoping.  Ten months after finding it I had surgery and it was fixed.  I basically had a Nissan.  Haven't had a problem since.  It took me a bit of time to get used to eating as I hand't really had solid or mushy food for nine months, I was either NPO or on clears all that time.  I had tube feedings, TPN, they tried fibron glue....God, I don't remember what all else.  I developed a blood clot behind my first PICC line so there was that too.....Sheesh!
Please remember, IT DOES GET BETTER!!
