Infection!
My sister had stomach stapling done. One and a half days later she was rushed into surgery because of a leakage inside. After 15 days in hospital she was sent home with a caretaker. One day home and she's back in hospital em with a really foul smelling insision and very swollen abdomen. I was wondering if anyone had anything like this happen to them and they came through it ok?
sounds like she is septic that means the infection is also in the blood stream and she may have also a nasty staph infection with cellulitis. I am no doctor but this could happen with any surgery. see if they can do blood cultures and also skin cultued too to make sure it is not flesh eating bateria which is the really really bad staph infection and comes on rapidly. Another possibility is that there may still be a sponge or other material left inside from surgery. I wish the best for your sister and she has a speedy recovery. If need be if the family does not think the original surgeon is trustworthy ask for different doctor until there is one the family trusts.
I had a revision from RNY to DS. I had some post op complications. One of them was that the day I was supposed to be discharged my incision decided to leak serosanquenous fluid (it's an orangey fluid). My incision was red and swollen. A couple weeks later I got a gastric leak. The leakage came out through my open incision. For the last 14 months I have been dealing with a chronic gastric leak and fistula. I just had a fistula plug procedure that I think is working. It's still too early to tell, but I'm still around thank goodness.
It sounds though to me like her incision may be infected. If it hasn't already happened she should go to the ER ASAP.
