Leg Edema and low protein

Hi All,
Any idea how to deal with the pain from the edema in the legs from the low protein?   I had labs pulled on Saturday and haven't gotten the results back yet, but my protein and albumin are both very low.  They are looking at putting me on TPN if they are not improved.  Had CT scan as well they can't rule out an internal hernia or blind loop syndrome, and a partial bowel obstruction, but I am in no shape to have surgery wth the protein levels so low.  This is just how my body has reacted to the revision surgery.  I hadn't realized that my protein levels were always below the scale even before my original surgery.  Had I known, I for sure wouldn't have had revision surgery.

Thanks,
Deanne

You are an Erny, so taking in 6 protein shakes/day isn't holding you?

Hi Michele,
Yes, I am an ERNY.  In some ways I feel a whole lot better, but the swelling in the legs have not improved.  It seems like by the end of the day, every ounce of fluid is in my legs (I know at least it's from the waist down).  I am not having the blood pressure drops as often.  I have been able to work more the last couple of weeks, except for Dr. Appts. to rule out anything else going on.

I was wondering if there is anything I can do to help with easing the pain of the legs and the tops of my feet.  Hot bath, cold packs?  I have no idea.  I do put my legs up most of the day on a foot stool at chair level pretty much at work.  It does help, but it's not above my heart.

OK, but if you're in protein malnutrition, only protein will help and a lot of it., like 30 g every 2 hrs by the clock

Michele,
I am pushing them.  I will try to increase more on top of what I was doing.  The only one that seems to agree with my system right now is the Oh Yeah, it's expensive, but at least I can drink them.  At this point cost is not the deciding factor, I have to do them for my health and do them consistently, because if you don't have one you like you won't do it consistently.

OMG, we need to get you matched to a powder that is similar. Syntha 6, Gaspari, - those are both creamy like that, when shaken with water. IDS and Pure Whey Stack are a bit thinner, but still creamy in flavors.

My staff can help you get similar to the Oh Yeahs.

Will I see you in Phx?

I have the Matrix 5.0 and a GNC 100% Whey Protein that I also use.  The Oh Yeah is very convenient for me to bring to work and put them in my fridge.  I do have the IDS vanilla/cinnamon I think, but it might be outdated.  When you were in Tucson there was only 1 that I really liked.  I have the package at home, I will look at it.  I think it is an IDS vanilla.

Phoenix, I will have to play it by ear.  As you can probably figure, I am not committing to anything right now.  If I can go, I will do my best to be there.  I see the Dr. in Phoenix next week, if I don't get a call before then.

I have had reactions to the whey shots and even the proteinex.  So some of these types are out of the running for me.

Have you thought about sitting in a anti gravity lawn chair puts your feet up above your heart. Just a thought.

I have improved somewhat from where I was a month ago to today.  Not an easy road right now.  I will keep you updated as I can.  I haven't gotten the labs back yet, but I do see the surgeon again in 1 week.  I know by then he will have them all back.
