almost 5 months - adhesion removal & candy cane repair.....recovery HELP!
So I had lost 70 pounds, but was having pain my left side under my rib cage. It was sharp and shooting at times and just annoying at other times. It began to be particularly uncomfortable after I would eat. Anyway, after a CT scan my surgeon scheduled diagnostic lap. where he was expecting to find adhesions. During the surgery he found 4 adhesions and also my candy cane had elongated itself while healing. He fixed the adhesions and shortened the candy cane again. I was in the hospital for one day and discharged and could resume life with only a limitation of lifting heavy things. Here I am almost 2 weeks post op and i have a pinching pain on my left side (kind of the same location) and my old stomach is gurgling a lot. I am also able to eat a lot less than prior to the surgery (not that this is a problem...I am happy with this).
Has any one had a similar surgery....how long did it take to feel like your old self? I have a follow up next Wednesday with my surgeon, but am a teacher and return to work on Monday. I am concerned about my return and that all of this is normal. I thought it wasn't supposed to be a big deal...I have taken all of my pain meds and am not necessarily in pain, but uncomfortable a lot of the time.

Hopefully you will heal quickly! I'm 7 year post op and have had non stop complications. What is a candy cane? I'm not familiar with that term.
I have major adhesions from all the surgeries I had. I'm almost to the point where they may go back in to cut out the adhesions, we've just been trying to avoid it as long as we could. I have similar symptoms to yours. They just diagnosed it as blind loop syndrome. I don't go to the gi until Feb 1 to discuss what it means to me and treatment plan.
Good luck.

Well, A lot has happened since I posted this thread ......
Starting around the 31st of December I would get nauseau every time I would eat and my stomach would cramp and spasm. This continued to happen even when I went for just liquids (protein shakes) - they seemed too thick or something. When I talked to my surgeon he scheduled a scope thinking that ther emight be some type of stricture or somethings. The scope was on the 7th and although inflamed everything look ok. My surgeon admitted me at that point for severe dehydration and scheduled a swallow test so he could follow food the rest of the way down into the Y. The sallow test came out fine, but still cramping and things when I eat or drink. So a exploratory Lap. was scheduled and he was going to put in a feeding tube to get some nutrients in. During the surgery he found that my small intestines were trying to wrap themselves up in the Y. Anyway, with that repaird, my small instestince are VERRY unhappy and inflamed. I just got out of the hospital this past Thursday with a TPN bag and a feeding tube. Thesurgeons thought process is that the spasms etc. are my bodyreaction to the arearrangement.
I am giong to my surgeon weekly. We are hoping that evenually the settle into norm soo,
I am not sure this was any help, but trust your surgeon and he will get you through

Well, I have not had the "typical road." From January to April I had TPN and only put food in my mouth once during the day. Each time I ate I continued to have pain on my left side. In April Dr. Peters went back in and "cleaned" there were a few more adhesions and he opened up the Y a little bit more. After that surgery I returned to eating and things were okay. I had diarrehea from then until the middle of May. I also had serious pain after eating. I went back to the surgeron and we started to look at my gallbladder. Sure enough, I had stones....my gallbladder was removed last weekend.
The good news is that I finally feel normal. I still have pain on my left side and take pain meds fairly often. I know for me an adhesion led from one things to another. Was your adhesion causing a problem in the intestines
I know that I have had a lot of surgeries and each time I would try to bounce back, similar to after my original RNY and it never went that well. I have to say that it was usually like 4-5 weeks before I felt "normal" and my life could pick back up!
