I'm leaning towards a reversal too.

Julie had a reversal.  I was watching her journey b/c she had many problems like I did. I was hoping the reversal would "fix" her but it didn't.  She was having more problems and was in the hospital the last time I checked in on her.  You can follow my latests posts to find her or go back a couple of pages.  She is on other threads that relate to reversals.

I wish you good health!

I have two sides to my brain - a right side and a left side.  The trouble is sometimes there is nothing left in the right side and nothing right in the left side.

I had an RNY in 2/2005 and an ERNY last Nov (08).  I am have such severe complications (severe malabsorption causing all sorts of ills).  Soooo... I am having this ERNY reversed this coming week.  I cannot share anything about this YET, but give me a week or longer.

What's your story?

my story is that i had a wonderful pre-op 6 mos. lost 45 lbs, took my vitamins and exercised my surgeon stated i was the perfect candidate. on 4/23/07 i had my rny and had immediate complications. the surgery was not easy as i had adhesions from previous old type c/s and hysterectomy that left them as he called them like cement. he had to cut the omentum to do the surgery and from day 1 it did not function and i can not tolerate more than 5-7 bites of food. i have had 8 surgeries to try and correct the structure and function including a total takedown of the original rny and a new bypass put in. i have no pouch as my is now embedded on the backside of the liver. i can not keep the weight on and have relied ona feeding tube for 2 years. my kidneys are shot aaaaaaand my liver is now in trouble. so oct 28th my last dilatation and scope i ran out of options and my surgeon suggested a reversal to say my life. he wants me to gain 10 lbs before the surgery to make it safe for him to operate lol i can not keep any weight on including increasing the feedings.so i see him on 12/7 and we will go from there. i am having an mri done tomorrow to check things out in both the kidneys and the liver. what is an eryn please let me know so i can inform my surgeon of this if this might be helpful down the road for me. no scheduled date yet but i know he wants to do this asap to try and reverse all these health issues that are occuring. anxious to have you get back to me...may God truly bless you in the days ahead.   patricia

Patricia:
In a nutshell, an ERNY is an Extended RNY... bypasses much more sm intestine.  I had no idea how long mine went until just recently.  I am seeing doctors at Mayo...they are lifesavers!
How in the world are you going to GAIN 10 lbs???  The more I eat, the more I can lose.  I feel so badly for you...your complications are so much worse than mine...altho mine are on the way IF I don't do something now.  Ug.  Sometimes sometimes sometimes I regret having any surgery.  I feel that something is wrong with me because I could (originally) gain so much weight without even trying...I gained 75 pounds in ONE year!!!  Am I a freak?  An exception?  I don't know. Thought that this surgery (1st one) would be the answer, but started gaining again.  At this point, altho I don't want the co-morbidities, I'd settle for being heavier...at least I could eat and didn't poop my pants.  (humorous but true)
Let me know how you are doing...PM me if you wish.  :)

Patricia,

I am so sorry I am so slow responding, but I have not been on this portion of the board lately.  I have had horrible complications for the last now almost 2 years...my first 4 were text book WLS heaven...and then boom unable to gain or maintain my weight no matter what I ate.  I had surgery January 27, 2009 to revise my RNY to a proximal allowing my intestines to absorb more of what I ate.  It backfired big time...by May I was down to 82 pounds...so they put a PICC line in giving me 2400 calories of food a day via the PICC plus I ate as much as I could orally...I gained up to 107 pounds...but in september developed sepsis due to the PICC line becoming infected,..so out that came.  They wanted to do a complete takedown right then of my RNY, but I just was starting to feel good and could not stand the thought of another surgery...so I made a deal with the surgeon that if my weight dropped to 95 pounds I would contact him immediately, they would put a feeding tube in and do an emergency take down.  The lowest I have gotten to was 97 pounds, but I was sick then, and the moment I got better I got back up to 102...I maintain right around 100-102 pounds and I am okay with that as long as I feel good.  I just seriously look like I need a cheeseburger...LOL

I hope if you have to have a reversal it works and you will become healthy!

HI LAURA THANKS FOR WRITING ME BACK. THIS THING CAN BE SO STRANGE. I WAS NEVER ABLE TO EAT FROM DAY 1. THERE IS NO RHYME NOR REASON. I HAD MY FEEDING TUBE 2 YEARS AND 3 MONTHS. THERE REALLY IS NO GUARENTEE THAT I REVERSE I WILL EVER BE WITHOUT IT. I RECENTLY HAD A BOWEL OBSTRUCTION AND WORKED FEVERISHLY TO RESOLVE IT APART FROM SURGERY AND WE HAVE DONE THAT. I SPENT ALOT OF TIME BEING NAUSEATED AND COMPAZINE HAS BECOME MY FRIEND. MY LIVER HAS BEEN AFFECTED AS WELL AS MY KIDNEYS STEMMING FROM A PROTEIN MALNUTRITION. I HAVE HOWEVER MAINTAINED BETWEEN 140 AND 145 WHICH ACTUALLY IS WITHIN MY NORMAL RANGE I DIPPED ONCE TO 135 LBS WHICH I LOOKED ABSOLUTELY AWFUL. I CAN EAT SOME THINGS BUT NOT ENOUGH TO MAINTAIN MY WEIGHT AND THEREFORE I RELIE ON THE TUBE TAKING FEEDINGS AND FREE WATER FOR HYDRATION AT NIGHT.THIS ALLOWS ME TO WORK AND MAINTAIN SOME NORMALCY TO MY LIFE. I ABSOLUTELY DREAD THE THOUGHT OF A REVERSAL. I HAVE HAD 8 SURGERIES INCLUDING AN ENTIRE REDO OF THE RNY. I HAVE NO POUCH SINCE IT WAS EMBEDDED ON THE UNDERSIDE OF THE LIVER AND COULD NOT BE REMOVED. SO, IT KIND OF GOES FROM MY ESPOGHUS THROUGH THE PROXIMAL ANASTOMOSIS DOWN INTO THE LIMB THE FOOD JUST SITS THERE AND MAKES ME FEEL LIKE I WILL EXPLODE. BUT, IT SURE TASTE GOOD GOING DOWN IN SPITE HOW AWFUL I FEEL AFTERWARDS. FOR ME I FEEL MY BEST JUST NOT EATING PERIOD. I STARTED COUNSELING BECAUSE A FEAR OF BECOMING A TRUE ANOREXIC FOLLOWING THE SURGERY OR PIGGING OUT AND GAINING THE 180 LBS I DID LOSE. THAT IS MY BIGGEST FEAR. I HOPE YOU ARE DOING WELL AND WOULD APPRECIATE STAYING CONTACT WITH YOU. THERE IS NOT TOO MANY OF US OUT THERE TO SAY THE LEAST AND THANK GOD FOR THAT....HOPE YOUR CHRISTMAS WAS FILLED WITH HOPE AND LOVE....PATRICIA
