Some info about me, I had RNY this year, in June  8th 2009. I had my gallbladder removed in 2000.
I have had some stomach pain for about a week. It comes last a minute or two then is gone. It feels sharp and cutting. It's right below my sternum. It feels like the top of my old stomach, where I imagine the staple line is. Sunday I was sitting down eating but when I stood up I had sharp pain. The pain felt like a horizontal line across my upper abdomen, it's too low for my pouch.  The pain is more or less in the same place again it last a short time but the pain on Sunday scarred me.
I would go to the doctor but due to the fact that I have no insurance I don't want to rush into it. I just started taking antacids 2 days ago and am hoping this helps. I was wondering if anyone has had similar pain.

is the pain on the left or right side?  does it radiate to your back?  I was thinking if this is the case that you could be experiencing Kidney stones.  I've had them 3 times once before surgery and twice since.

blockage - hernia -twisted intestines. or adhesion. They may pull and create a narrowing.
I had a similar pain - but usually it lasted 1-2 hrs or more.
i had 2 surgeries - first GB removal and hernia repair and untwisting, then just 2.5 weeks ago - another hernia repair.  So far so good.
get insurance if you can

So sorry you're having to deal with this.  I too have had severe abdominal pain and have gone to ER a whole bunch of times and they can't find anything wrong.

I used to have the pain constantly....almost everytime I ate.  It's so much better now.  The last time I had an episode was like 5 months ago...Thank Goodness!

Good luck and make sure you quickly get insurance so that you're cared for.....

I've been having the same problems for about a month. The pain is really sharp and exactly where you said yours is. My doctor put me on Nexium to try for a month (because I'm having major reflux issues also) but it's looking like they are going to have to put some sort of pump in. I didn't ask a lot of questions because I was hoping so much that the meds would work that I don't think I wanted to think about surgery. I have my surgery nine days after you did. How are you doing now?
