Excess B-1 in my system...any thoughts?
Hi there,
I am new to this forum and was hoping that someone could give me a little insight to a problem I have.
I am 31 years old and had my surgery in JAN of 2006. I have done wonderful and I am at my "perfect" weight. However, my headaches have increased and I always feel short of breath. I saw my Doc and she ran a panel of tests and my blood came back with a VERY high level of B-1...187 was the count. I was advised to immediately stop taking the additional thiamin that I was originally instructed to take.
My Original surgeon is 2000 miles away, so seeing him isn't an option.
Has anyone else had this happen?
Thanks!

Since I answered one, I figure I should grab this one. too
USUALLY B1 is a deficiency for WLS and we have our own special version, Bariatric Beri Beri.
Someone was smart enough to prevent yours.
My B1 had reached 180, but there were no symptoms. There are no reported cases of toxicity, according to my books.
B6 doesn't actually go toxic, but can cause side effects. A lil too much will manifest the same as too little.
At least the B vites are as easy to get rid of as they are to get on board.
When you cut off it, be sure to test down the road and not let it drop too low.
What can cause beri beri?
alcohol
vomiting (and one of the symptoms of beri beri is also vomiting!)
not taking a good multi

P.S. My year + long absence has NOTHING to do with my WLS, or my type of WLS. See my profile.
