The surgeon who did my rny said it didnt need to be reversed maybey just reworked.Ikept losing weight no matter how hard I trried I went From 6"4" 535 lbs to 6'2" 174 pounds in 1 1/2 yrs. Surgeon was nonresponsive to my complaints and issues.Fainting,Leg swelling.tooth loss.hair loss.super thin fingernails getting weaker and weaker till they split way up into the bed which bleeds and hurts...Iwas admitted into the hospital in tulsa Oklahoma and spent my 2 yr anniversary in hospital had a pic line giving me nutrients and FAT 24/7 for two weeks before they would talk rework.I asked about a reversal and the dr in OK said he would rather leavethe rest of the surgery as it was done ...The first Dr. bypassed to much of my small bowel causing short gut disease also known as short bowel. The common channel was raised by 100cm.Ayear later I had a bowel kink then traveled to charleston and spoke to the head of bariatrics who told me in a warm caring scottish brouge.Once they cut across the nerves divide and staple the stomach You CANNOT REVERSE IT. He said even if you could get someonne to try it. All you would ever di is puke and puke and puke.you'd never be able to keep things down.I wish this type of surgery should be outlawed even the fellow who originally developed the technique says its side effects arent worth it.

What all were you taking/are you taking for vites and protein? I have a quite radical RNY, and I know lots of ppl who didn't follow the program we were given and went to our local U to have their surgeries back down. Not reverse, as you said, but taken down to a lesser surgery much as you did.

The result for most was still having deficiencies and substantial regain.

I'm sorry you had such a bad experience. They always tell our ppl that "too much was bypassed" when the problem was really that "too much stubborn between the ears" since we had good launch instructions, especially for the 90's! They had the same starter instructions I did, and they only got better over time.

In your case, you probably did not have a good launch and that is so, so sad. My dh is 6'1" and his ideal is 175 or so, his low on the way down was 162 and he now holds about 180, depending on how many cookies leap into his face.

We pretty much had the maximum bypassed. I'm more so than he is.

Now, while you were told that your transected stomach cannot be connected, I've sent 2 ppl to CA to have their RNY's changed into DS. That involved rebuilding their stomachs completely and it was done! Both had serious complications from their badly done RNY's. Both are doing very well now. Not many docs will take that one on, though.

P.S.  My year + long absence has NOTHING to do with my WLS, or my type of WLS. See my profile.

Michelle, where in CA did you send people? I am in CA and considering a revision because I don't want to go completely back to nothing. I have just had a lot of issues with my RNY and am thinking DS seems like a better fit for me. Thanks.

There Dr. Rabkin in SF. He has taken 2 of my most train-wrecked ppl and made them working/functional ppl again.

I know there is a "program fee", not too sure about the details, but sorta, when all hope is gone.......

BTW, one of my ppl was from GA, one from here (WA)

I sent her to Dr. Rabkin and BTW, her original doc was the same as yours, so it's likely you have a similar problem. Either an eroded ring OR a slipping ring

Thanks for the information.  I am trying to get my RNY reversed due to severe side effects like being 5'6.5" and 105lb, edema, leg cramps, headaches, blood sugar issues, memory loss, cognition problems, extreme fatigue, anemia and other vitamin dificiencies.  My Dr. says I'm one step away from disability and one step away from death.  So reversal is sounding like it may be a god send.

Thanks

Bear with me as I am new to this.  I had a gastric bypass in 2002 and never lost much weight.  I believe 40 lbs. total.  My doctor told me everyone is different.

For the past three years or it could of been longer, who knows, my health has been declining and I thought it was due to stress (had a very hard three years).  I just found out that I am have severe anemia, my iron was at 13, my hemoglobins jumped down to 6.0 while I was in the hospital.  I felt tired all day, severe headaches, severe body aches, confusion, forgetful, not to mention - I would jump down anyone's throat, severe fatigue (started to feel light headed to the point of almost passing out), restless leg syndrome and the list does go on.

I just had four pints of blood transfused to me last weekend.  Just had a colonoscopy done and will have a endoscopy done... I guess the point of the matter is - if I knew this surgery would cause life threatening problems down the line, I would of not had it done.  I regret doing this surgery and I was thinking of having it reversed b/c I am a candidate now for more transfusions and infusions, etc.  I am sickened by this whole mess.

I guess the only thing I am grateful for is getting to the doctor in time to see why my body felt like giving up (which I never did).  The doctor is amazed I was able to do what I do - my response, I have no choice.

If you have more information of the reversal, I am all ears and would appreciate your feed back greatly.
