Rapid weight loss + Rapid aging Good Trade off?

Of greatest concern are the effects of long-term nutritional deficiencies, which are rarely discussed realistically. The neurological decline and aging seen after bariatric surgeries is especially rapid and results from multiple vitamin and mineral deficiencies, said Dr. Ernsberger. Both the stomach and small intestines are critical for absorbing many nutrients, including B-vitamins, calcium, iron, vitamin D and protein. Even taking supplements in multiple times the recommended amounts doesn’t help because the surgeries eliminate the proper function of the stomach and gastrointestinal system, he said. Hence, malnutrition problems are not uncommon, according to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases and include anemias, osteoporosis, loss of teeth, blindness and, in a reported 16% of cases, even neurological and brain damage. We are seeing the return of nutritional deficiency diseases of starvation in formerly healthy fat people that had become rare in Western societies and are typically only seen in underdeveloped regions of the world.

who are you and why are you here? seriously, have you had WLS and complications or what?

once upon a time I had a group to talk about Binge Eating Disorder, and later one about Clean Eating.

PM me if you are interested in either of these.

Yeah, who the heck are you and why ARE YOU HERE?  Anyone who has read my blog knows that I have had a bunch of problems, but you don't see me hating on here...what's up? What is your real issue??  I still don't have any regrets because that weight was going to kill me!

I am here cause there are many people that are not going to die tomorrow if they look at other options
to lose their weight.
What this site is fostering is not healthy....a collective excitement and hysteria towards a very serious
and risky treatment that is not suitable for everyone.  Specially those who have mental issues that
should be weeded out by really concerned and caring doctors.

I thought you were here because you were trying to convince your girlfriend NOT to have WLS?

Can you provide the sources of your information above?  I'm asking sincerely as I am still a pre-op and do want to know the bad as well as the good.

I have given up on convincing her.  She's not sure of going ahead yet but everything is in the air really.

If you refer to the beginning of the thread I just copied and pasted it.  If you google a significant portion of it you will hit the article in no time.

It's a DAMN shame you didn't walk in my shoes at 460lb! No wait, you wouldn't have been able to bare the pain of each step with your winny ass. Please cut and paste your medical degree here, or stay on that side of the boarder. Giving medical advice without one is a crime here!

I am familiar with Dr Ernsbergers written works in regard to post op complications, I am nearly 29 years post op , had the old gastric stapling in 1980 ... and I am now suffering with long term complications that seem to be associated with vitamin and mineral deficiencies. So I am probably more open than short termers to research in regard to these issues. I am also very interested in the pyshological segregation ( attitudes to long termers with complications) that I have found very common in the post wls forums on the net. I was part of the wls pioneering era, when there was no pre op tests, information or aftercare ... most definately no info on long term complications. I would be interested in sharing research on this subject with you as I have an australian obesity surgery site that focus on post wls complications. Please feel free to contact me via private message.
