Need Help!!! Abdominal Pain!!
I need some help quick! I have seen countless Dr's for this, and I have been hospitalized for 3 days, and they found nothing. From reading this forum I think you all have a better grip of what I'm going through. I had RNY Lap surgery 6 years ago. For the last yr and a half, I have been having upper right abdominal pain. They have ran all the blood tests, ultra sounds, x-rays, ct scans with and without contrast, and lapriscopic surgery. Here is what they found. I have low vitiamin D, and vitiamin B12. I have a abnormal lymph in my heart sack, but was sent to a Pulminary Dr, because they thought it was in my lung. NOT!! At least the Lung Dr knew differently. He's been monitaring it, and it hasn't grown, and the are no others in the area. This lymph node is the size of a nickel. Had an upper GI, and that looked fine. Went back to my bypass surgoen, he did an ultra sound of my gailbladder, and he did a laperoscapy. My gailbladder was fine, and he was no hernia or twistings. While he said if it returned, he would take out my gailbladder. I'm not to thrilled with having parts of me just taken out for no reason. The good news about this is that it subsided for 6? months, but not it's back with vengences. I don't know what to do, and there are new symptoms. My large intestants is full, how that could happen I don't know, I have always had a diareia problem. So fiber to the rescue. Trust me I'm clean. Didn't help!! I also have gas, gurgling in what seems to feel like my old stomach, and smal intestinal area, so this has lead to worse than normal flatulans. I also have been having my right leg swell up from knee to my ankle when I stand on it to long.
I'm sorry for such a long posting, but I just don't know what to do. I have the Dr's stumped, and I have a follow-up Thur. May 7th. I'm thinking an internal hernia, or auto immune disease? But any ideas, help, suggestions (short of shotting myself) would be so appreciated? I REPEAT NO IDEA IS STUPID, AND EVEN A SUGGESTION ON HOW TO GET RID OF THIS PAIN!!!!! I've gone so far with this bloating feeling, that I had my 2 yr old nephew jump on my belly. It actual kind worked. If someone would of told me about all these problems that I've had from this surgery 6 yrs ago, I never would of had it done. Trust me when one I tell you this is just one more thing, in a long line of problems I've had from this surgery.
Thanks for reading, and any help you can give me.

Hi,
Well my PCP finally found something in a XRAY!!!! YEA!!!!! I have a partical obstruction, and an internal hernia. The internal hernia is probably a retroanaastomic hernia, which is common in gastric bypass patients. The reason they found it this time was that my large intestine was clear, and I was having an attack at the time, with gas built up behind it. The doc also help set off the attack worse, when she was feeling around. I think the reason they didn't fined it before was with the CT scan, was they did it with contrast, and not barium. From what I read they need barium, it shows the blockages and hernia better. I also think the bariatric surgeon didn't find it, was because he was to focused on the gallbladder. Air should of been add to my digestinal tract during surgery, this would of helped find it sooner. But enough dwelling on what ifs.
Monday she's going to be setting me up with a gastro intestinal surgeon, so that he can look at it, and operate to get rid of it I'm so glad!!! I'll keep you posted on what he finds. This surgeon is known to take on the hard cases, which is what rny patients are. No one really like to deal with us, and there is very Little out there about after bariactric surgery complications. I have found about all my information about complications here on this site. You people here have been great, and the ones of us that have had complication after need to post. So that better decision can be made. From what I read about 2.5 to 5% of people who have bariactric internal hernias, but some research suggests as many as 30% have hernia problems after RNY.
Well I hope my information can help someone. If anyone has any questions, please feel free to ask. Like I said I'll keep everyone up to date on what going on.

I went back to my surgeon the other day and he scheduled me for exploratory surgery on May 20th. He said I could have ulcers in the sealed off part of the stomach that can't be seen on regular tests - you should ask your surgeon about this possibiltiy. While inside me, he will do a scope into the sealed part of the stomach. He will also look for hernias and obstructions and anything else he can see.
hope this helps.
You are a living example of why I don't want my gf to have this Lap RNY.
Sorry I have no clue about help exept that you must demand an answer and a diagnosis.
Sorry it took me so long to get back with answers to this problem, but a lot of diagnostics have been going on. So here is what they've done to me so far. On May 11th, I got scheduled to see a Gastric Intestinal Surgeon, about the partial small intestinal block. But the problem there was he couldn't see me until June 15th. But that was to long to sit, and wait, so I called my RNY Gastric Bypass surgeon. He made am appointment for me on May 14th, and the receptionist doubled checked to make sure he didn't want to see earlier. He said that was fine, but if i started getting a fever, or it the pain got worse, either call him to come in early, or go the the ER right away. I went to see him on the 14th, and he figured it was a bacterial infection. I thought this was better than have my gallbladder out for no reason. This is not common, but it does happens in about 25% post RNY Bypass Surgeries. What this is, is a build a bad bacteria in your old stomach. We don't use the stomach like we use to, so the bacteria grows. This happens because the stomach is not flushing itself like it use to. My Dr. prescribed strong anti-biotics. One that is usually used for people with malaria, and I had to take it for 14 days, 2 pills 1200 mg a day.
Well I took my last pills 5/26th, that same day I woke up with a back ache. As the day went on, the pain got worse. The pain was so bad, that I actually started to cry. My mom offered to take me to the ER, but Thur. 5/27 she called my RNY surgeon. He decided to see me at 2:45pm. I got there @ 2:20pm,, bit 2:45pm came and went. At 3pm his nurse came out, and said "It's going to be long, because my Dr was doing a procedure."
So I left, and went across the street to the ER. They gave me 3 shots of morphine, and it didn't touch the pain. They did a CT scan with contrast 3 ways, one you drank, two was a enema, and the last was injected. They found during this CT scan was an enlarged Gallbladder. They did an Ultrasound of my Gallbladder.. I got back to the ER, and the surgeon was waiting for me. He told me what was wrong, and I had a choice of that nite, or the next day. It was urgent to have it done right away, or It could burst. I decided to have it right away. What was wrong was, an extremely large gallbladder,(the largest this surgeon ever seen), but there was no stones.. He removed it, and the sharp pains have. I still have incision pain, and shoulder from the air they put in, but I'm steadily getting better.
I suffered with this for almost a year, and I had these same test in 08/08, and they found nothing. I also had exploratory surgery in 9/08, and everything was fine. I don't know if they miss read the tests, or if it had to be acting up in order to find it. All I know is I'm feeling a heck of a lot better, and I can't wait until the incision pain is gone, to see if this was my problem. So far so good.
I saw what one guy wrote here about complication from RNY surgery, and how for every one complaint, there are 100's more, and how he doesn't want his girlfriend to have RNY surgery. I ways I don't blame him. The Dr that did my RNY surgery asked me if I would have this surgery again. I told him, "No, I wouldn't. Yes, I was thankful that my cholesterol is down, and my diabetes is basically non existent. But the side effect like my upper right abdominal pain, constant diaria, sugar reaction, nausea, and vomiting. These never go away. Basically, you're trading one kind of problem for another. Yes high cholesterol, and diabetes are life threatening, but there are some side effect that happen years later are also life threatening. Also RNY complication years later are life threatening, and harder to diagnose. You have to have a surgeon who's skilled in RNY, to understand how your plumbing works, or it nearly impossible to figure out what's wrong.
Sorry about the long threat, but I thought detail of what been going on was needed. If anyone was any questions please feel free to email me at [email protected] , just label it health question. I'll be more than happy to give you answers to your questions.
Take care everyone, and I hope everyone finds out soon what's wrong with them. I will keep you up to date on my condition.

Oh wow, this hurts. at first I thought it was a stuck piece of food that won't go down (I had steak for dinner), but I ate 9 hours ago. I don't know what it is, but i want it to stop!
