I had major complications with my VSG surgery and was in the hospital for a month on and off, Had a feeding tube put in and now can eat some foods but I thought by now I would want more food? I have lost 65lb and worry about getting enough nutrition. I've been drinking 2 Icopure a day that have 40grams of protein but that and some cereal daily is all I really want. Should I worry yet? Anyone else have this problem?

HI Kat..

Glad to see you posting again.. i am sorry you went through such a rough time.

I think as you get out a bit farther you will find your appetite gets better.  Make sure you keep up the protein and the fluids.

Keep us informed

I haven't had your exact problems but, trust me, worrying about loss of appetite or losing too much too fast in those eary days is needless worry. Our bodies have a way of "leveling out" and getting obssessed with "not getting enough calories" can set us up for regain simply by getting us into bad habits long after the need to worry is there. At least it can for someone like me who's root problem is compulsive overeating. Any habit I gpt into in those early days to slow/stop the weight loss stayed with me long after there was any concern about weight loss. I had a friend who lost weight rapidly and was told by her doc that she needed to start eating more because she was losing too fast. Unfortunately, she took his advice and began eating between meals. Now she is approximately 40 pounds overweight and can't seem to break the habit of those in between meal snacks - dangerous territory for someone like me! As a pretty well-versed post-op patient (and a nurse, to boot), my main concern was nutritional like yours. I don't know how much you weigh but a target protein intake is a gram for each pound you weigh (weigh 120, drink 120 grams) and, of course, stay on top of taking your muli-vites, calcium citrate, vite B12, and any other supplements you think you may need (I take a Vite B complex, Vite A&D, Magnesium, Potassium and Biotin as well as iron infusions). But. as far as the weight loss and lack of appetite, I'd drop the worry and enjoy the repreive while it lasts! Stay encouranged. peace, lisa

Thanks Lisa; I have had a rough road at the start of this so lots of different worries but what you say makes sense. I do need to watch snacking. Since I don't eat much at a meal I tent to treat myself to what ever I like when I want it and I know that is dangerous territory. I need to start planning meals better. Thanks for making me think.
