Can Anyone Help This PAIN Go Away ???

Hi all.  It's been ages since I've been on this site and coming back tonight reminds me why I love it.  Hopfully someone here can help me out.  I'm 5+ years post RNY and like others have had my ups and downs.  I moved many states away from my WLS so it's not like I can just go ask him.

I've been having really bad pain about 2 inches left of my belly button at the waist line.  I thought I had a hernia, Dr said probably a pulled muscle that will go away on it's own. No such luck.  If I bend over, twist, laugh, cough, or God forbid I sneeze - I want to scream/cry.  It actually feels like my insides are ripping apart. I'm now stuck on the couch because doing everything else hurts.  I am not a couch-potato type and would like my life back.

Last week, Dr sent me for CT scan. I found out today that I have ovarian cysts (again).  P.I.T.A. BUT... I don't think those are way up at my waistline, I've had them often and they are always low-real low.  Unfortunately, the Dr is now so focused on those that he's ignoring the pain at my waist.  Dr states that if it was anything else, it would be on the CT report.  So now, I'm determined to figure it out on my own so I can get back to life.

Has anyone had anything similar?
What was the resolution?
Any suggestions?

Thanks everyone - I'm off to take a pain pill and attempt to sleep.

Marcy, I have to agree with you the pain for ovarian cyst shouldn't be at waist level.  And, the CT does not always show everything.  I would be adament on your medical team checking you further, might even mean an exploratory surgery to check for a kink in your bowel caused by adhesions (common) or a Peterson's hernia.

There have been several long-term post-ops have kinks, obstructions (partial and full) or hernias and a similiar experience.  Whatever you do DO NOT keep quiet, keep pushing your doctor.

You might also want to post to the grad board where others see your post, I know it's active and a very knowledgeable, helpful board.

Thank you for your reply.  I will also post on the grad board - like I said before, it's been ages since I've been on here so I wasn't sure which board would be best.

Thanks again!

Hi.  I've had ovarian cysts and my daughter as well, and ours were both right at belly button area.  Either way, you need to get those taken care of, and be your best advocate.  Tell the doc that while he's in there or whatever, why not check out everything to be safe.  Do you have any other symptoms, like constipation that could lean towards an obstruction?  Keep a journal of everything and how it effected you for a day and then talk to your doc about it.  If all else, find a new doc.  Also, is this dr. experienced in WLS patients at all?

Just some thoughts.  I hope your feeling better soon.

I went for an ultrasound and they told me that the cysts had already dissolved, which I fully expected since I get them all the time and that the area I showed them as painful was not related to ovaries-it was too high.  So, I'm still trying to figure this out.  My Dr has referred me to a gastro-Dr, but can't get in with them until February!!!!  I don't want to be in pain that long.

I'm going to find a new Dr - this one claims to have experience with WLS, but I think it's more of a claim than a truth.

Just saw your post -

I just had the same problem you described with pain around the belly button and to the left and it turned out to be adhesions.  They did an exploratory and also removed the Gall Bladder at the same time.  I just posted about pain.  The surgery so far has not resolved the pain yet and recovery seems to be taking a bit longer but I can only guess that when they were "exploring" they were banging around and that can't feel so good!

Anyway, the adhesions did not show up on my CT scan but the mesentary and bowel were a bit inflamed and that led them to question what was up, either adhesions or hernia.

As your doc to review your scan for inflammation of bowel loops or mesentary.  He may see something that can lead you in the right direction.

Good luck and hope you feel better soon.
