Gastric Remnant Issue?

Hi all,

I'm having dull pain in my upper left quadrant that goes through to my back.  I'm also feeling a little bloated in the same area.  I have no issues eating, no vomiting, no fever, and I have normal BMs daily.  It's just uncomfortable.  I had my surgery almost a year and a half ago and had issues right at the beginning with my gastric remnant backing up with bile and it ruptured.  I have had no issues since then.  I'm worried the remnant may be backing up again...

Has anyone heard of issues where the remnant ruptured this far out from surgery?  I really don't want to go to the ER if I don't have to...

Thoughts?

I have had a ton of problems with my remnant stomach.  I have had two surgeries this year on account of it.  Also had a g-tube in for 9 months to drain out excess bile.

I think it is a bit better now although I still have pain every time I eat and I take Ultram daily for the pain.

I have never heard of a remnant bursting, that sounds very serious.

There are a couple of us that have had remnant stomach issues.  I wouldn't let it go if you are experiencing trouble, get checked out.

Hi everyone,

So glad that I have found some people with the same problems that I have been experiencing for the last five months.  After four surgeries and a j tube in place,  I am hopeful that a new surgeon will have an answer as to why my remnant keeps blowing up with bile.  I just completed a study where the radiologist injected 150 ccs of contrast into my tube and we could see that the remnant was draining.  So why am I continuing to drain 500-800 ccs of bile into a bag every day?  Please contact me if you have any answers.  Good luck to you all!

They don't know for sure, but they wonder if my remnant stomach's acid is irritating or hurting my small bowel (I had major reflux issues pre-op... took 3 acid reducing pills pre-op and am on 2 now).  I did have a small bowel obstruction with surgery to "fix" that.  They believe that the stomach remanent couldn't drain very well as well as my RNY-intake route.  G-tube didn't put out much post-op and after 3 weeks it was removed.  The G-tube is so horrible for me.  I am so miserable, words don't do it justice.  I really hope you don't have any problems and need surgery.  Each surgery makes the RNY more and more dangerous to maintain (due to strictures and adhesions).
