Removal of Band
Hello. I posted this on the other forum as well. I am having my band and gall bladder removed in two weeks. Has anyone done these two procedures together? I have had a lot of problems with my band; from throwing up daily, to pouch dilation, to slippage. I am happy to have it removed but want to get beyond this surgery so bad. I went to a new surgeon who ordered testing that found the gall stones. I will have my surgery done outpatient, which I am not crazy about. Anyone been through this?

I can't address the band removal with gallbladder removal, but your post made me think about revision to VSG. I know you didn't mention another WLS but if you were wondering what to do next, hang out on the VSG forum. I've learned the VSG is restriction just like the band without the high maintnance of the band. And there is no malabsorbtion like the RNY or DS, if that was a concern for you. Sorry to totally ignore your question. Good luck as you work through this difficult time.
Well, I just had my band removed and then had the RNY. I was wondering if you are having any other WLS performed too or just having the band removed? If just getting it removed with your gallbladder, you'll still probably be in some pain. What they find when they get in there will probably determine how bad or good your recovery will be. My surgery was supposed to be 2-3 hrs, instead it was 6 because the band had made such a mess inside me. I have had my gallbladder out, and the recovery for that wasn't too bad at all, in fact I was home the same day. I think the band removal might be the tricky part for you. Just say some prayers and trust your surgeon:) Good luck!

Hi. I had my gallbladder removed in Nov 1997. I had to go into the hospital on a Sunday, and I was put on very strong IV antibiotics for 3 days because I had such severe pancreatitis. I had the surgery on a Wednesday and was released on Saturday after my pain was under control and I was able to pass gas AND do a #2 (poo). I also had to be able to get up and walk the hallway at least twice a day. The recovery itself wasnt bad, but I wil warn you, I have had the "dumping syndrome" ever since the surgery. Make sure you drink LOTS of fluids or you will get dehydrated. I had been planning to get the Lap-Band, but now I plan to look more into the switch and VSG, just to know all of my options. RNY is totally out. It scares me to much. Anyway, good luck with the surgery!!!
