Ulcers and Strictures...

What do ya'll know about them?
Do you know  how they start?  What the symptoms are? Is it possible with them to be ok one day and not so the next few?  My symptoms have returned (vomitting and nausea) so I think my doc is going to do an EGD.

I can't help but feel ... well... foolish and a bit guilty (sad I know) ... All the docs thought it was a virus. Dr E did say if they returned, (this was Tuesday) it could be a stricture and an ulcer.. its just weird how one day clear liquids are fine, the next ... not so much...  I just would hate to be going through all of this and find nothing again like they did when I was at the ER... but I know what's happening and I can't control how often or anything... *sigh*

I have documented everything since last Tuesday (at the ER) so...Could it be meds? Could it be me?  So strange....

Any infromation, greatly appreciated..

Hi Amanda, I can't say I know all too muchabout them but here is my experience......About a year ago I started to get horrible pain below my sternum with nausea and vomiting. My surg gave me an upper GI and found nothing, so I let it go. Skip ahead a year of constant nausea and vomiting. I started to get nasty pains that felt like stabbing in my back on top of the pain that I had complained about before. I spent the day today at the hosp. in endoscopy. Turns out I have ulcers. Dunno how or why (I am almost three years out) but they they gave me catafate and I ate my first meal tonight without getting sick. I am aggravated with myself for making myself suffer for an entire year. It is a common thread on this board but I really felt like I was crazy and yeah, I did something radical to my body, but that doesn't mean I need to make myself suffer horribly!! Please don't give up...if there is pain there is something wrong!! Best wishes, Kristen

Oh Kristen thank you so much for sharing.... This sounds EXACTLY like what I am going through.  Did you find that you had nausea/vomitting every day? Or just with certain foods?  I am going for an edoscopy on Thursday .... so keep your fingers crossed for me.

It pretty much turned into most of the time, the list of food I was given not to eat is pretty much what I eat every day. Tea, tomato soup, chocolate, cheese. I eat these  foods at least once a day....if not more. I hope this was all, and not another issue on top. Oh yeah, it was carafate, not catafate that they gave me. It was in liquid form and it feels sooooo goood on the tummy! It coats and adheres to ulcers. Hopefully this is all it is for you, too! My prayers for you on Thursday!  PS the endo was a snap. I can't even remember it!

I feel like I can relate.   I was in the ER Saturday night (2/2/08).   I also had a bladder infection that I was already being treated for.  Once the dr. saw that she did not listen to my complaints about my stomach pain.    She said it was a reaction to the antibiotics I was taking.    So, still in pain.  Still have nausea.  Luckily I have the best primary care dr. around.   She thinks I need an Endoscopy.   I had my surgery in 2002 and a revision in 2005.   After my first surgery I had strictures and had dilations done several times.   The nausea feels the same but there was no pain back then.   My dr. thinks it could be Gastritis.   I have the symptons.  All I know is since Saturday I have only had toast, eggs and soup.  All are okay when I eat but I get the nausea and pain about 30 minutes or so after.  I see a specialist later today.  I take alot of meds for different problems but none are rough on the stomach.   The nausea started about 3 weeks ago and I dismissed it as post nasal drip.   The pain started during the week and hit the peak on Saturday.   After reading your post and the others, it sounds like what you have.   Thanks for the info.
