Just wondering if anyone slimes, refluxes, vomits etc. after being completely unfilled of the saline in the lap-band?  I wondered and what your eventual outcome from it?

Do you go to the Lapband board? Sliming, reflux, vomiting, etc after having your band totally unfilled could be caused by a slipped band, eroded band or one that was placed wrong to begin with.  You really need to have an upper GI done to check this out.  Also a fluro done will help show what is going on.  Another thing is after a sliming or vomiting epsiode, you should do full liquids for a minimum of 24 hours and then soft foods for another day, letting your stomach rest.  If you haven't done this in the past then it might have contributed to the band slipping, if that is the problem.  If you still want WLS but don't want to reroute your colon, then try VSG, it's a stomach reduction surgery that has been very successful for many.  My mom had a form of it back in the early 70's due to ulcers and after they removed the diseased part, she lost down from over 200lbs to 135lb and has never gained back.  That's 30+ years.  But remember ALL WLS has some kind of side effect. My mom's mostly being constipation and gas along with not being able to eat most dairy products.  But she sure can put down the cakes, Hershey bars, etc, only in very small quanities!

Hi, Yes, I posted this on the lap-band board and got one response-from wonderful Alyssa, who is getting her band out and converting to gastric sleeve.  I have a complete unfill and still on occasion slime and have reflux.  I eat carefully and try and remember that all surgeries are going to have their own set of problems.   I'm just a bit peeved at the band because at 13k that is 13k less I have, since no insurance coverage for weight loss for me.   I'm looking into the sleeve, but it all takes money.  I have an appt. with the surgeon that placed this band in February.  I got a barium swallow in December 2007. I guess the surgeon will blame it all on me and tell me I'm eating too much and that is why I stretched my pouch and am not losing, but gaining, at this time.  Well, while I was filled, I wasn't eating too much, I simply could not eat too much. I just had a hard time eating healthy foods.  So, I gravitated towards things like nuts and when I had them some pringles, even that caused pain.  I thought it was typical and just a part of my reflux.   I typically go on liquids after vomiting.  I'm just so frustrated with this band it changes day by day.  Thank you for your response.

Had it all, with an unfilled band I eventually slipped, had surgery to repair, only to slip again 5 days later.  Surgeon took the band, when he removed it I had much adhesions on the underside pulling the band out of place.  The motility of my esophagus declined, if it is something you frequently suffer you might suggest you have a motility test.  I had 3 scopes and none of the showed what was really going on, just some undigested food...

Mm, that doesn't sound good.  I really want to find out why I have so much reflux.  I didn't have any reflux before being banded.  I think I am going to consider the test for esophagus motility, but it takes 2 weeks to just get an appt. with the surgeon for an EGD, (tube down the throat to check the band).   Do you think you will get another weight loss procedure or are you gun shy now? I think I would consider something else.  I'm beginning to think it is just a matter of time before I have to consider something else-as a weight loss surgery.  I am grateful for the technology of the band, but it's got some major problems that happen with it to a lot of people. Just on a side note, I did see the surgeon since I first posted and he ordered an EGD which I'll have in about 2 weeks, then more than likely a surgery to repair my band.  I do have a pouch that is too big and the surgeon said he didn't make the pouch that size, so it stretched.  He said surgery would be the way to repair it and he thinks I do have a slip but has to do the EGD before he does any surgery.  I am vomiting pretty regularly now so I just want whatever is wrong with me to stop.

Don't get discouraged but even with EGD tests, 3 of them, they couldn't see my troubles, but they did see undigested food from 13 hrs prior.  It wasn't till the surgeon went in to take my band out that he saw adhesions.  And yes, I actually am in the process for RNY because I gained 65 lbs.  I wish the very best for you and your band, but I am thankful for all of us that if it doesn't work, there is still hope.  Blessings.
