Wow!  I'm so happy to find this post!  although, now I'm scared and worried I'm being a hypochodriac.  but, I have been having these killer pains in my mid-lower back that make it incredibly uncomfortable to sit or stand....only laying on my back seems to releive the pain.  The pain becomes dull after a few hours until I eat ANYTHINg....even the smallest amount of food leads to incredible discomfort  and feels like I'm getting jabbed in the stomach or lower back with a knife or something.  It's also slightly releived when I pass gas....but, then the pain returns.  So, I keep trying to make myself burp thinking it's just chronic gas or something. but, it's been over a week since it started and I think that the pain is getting progressively worse.

Looks like I'll be calling my surgeon tomorrow......

Hi!  Yeah, I've had releif only in the past 10 minutes.  But, I fear it will start again in the morning as soon as I eat something....   But, thanks to your original post, I'm going to pay MUCH closer attention to my discomfort and pain and still call my surgeon in the morning to schedule an appointment to have a look.  I don't want to end up with necrosis and twisted bowels etc.  So, thanks so much for your post and for being so open with your experience.

I will definitely post again if the pain continues and when I see my surgeon.

Many thanks!

Hi all!  I have been experiencing pain myself in my intestines that radiates to my back with an acidy feeling in my intestines and sometimes a feeling like food is just sitting there.  I have also had off and on diarrhea.  I also ran the gammet of tests from my primary dr and found nothing.  After emailing my surgeon this weekend he said he thinks I have an internal hernia and call the office to schedule an appt.  I wanted to know how long everyone waited until they had the surgery.  He made it sound as if it was urgent for me to have the surgery right away.  Unfortunately my surgeon is out of town until Thursday and I have to go out of town on Thursday, I know great timing, right?  Also, what is the recovery from the surgery like?  Does anyone know of anything that can alleviate the pain and the acidy feeling.  I take Nexium twice a day and am also swigging Mylanta and still having an acidy feeling.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

I found out shortly after Christmas about my internal hernia (Peterson's Hernia) and I finally had surgery on Feb 22.

I am so glad to have found this post the other day.  I have been having intermittent abdominal pain for over a year.  Sometimes it would be a dull ache with periods of intense pain like someone was wringing my intestines.  I would get sort of breath and have a burning sensation.  Most times I could take a Levsin and relax and they would go away in 15 to 20 mins.  But on Tuesday I had one that did not go away.  On Wednesday night I saw these post and called my surgeon Thursday am and today he did the surgery.  I like others hesitated as I was afraid "there would be nothing wrong with me".  But I could not even drink water without intense pain.  So the surgery went well.  He found a large hole under my intestines.  As he lifted up to inspect it they were stuck.  He pulled them out and made sure they were ok and sutured the hole.  Luckily it was before it became much more serious.

I too had had CT's, endoscpoy, Upper GI, visit to the ER, even got admitted for fluids because times where I would not eat or drink and other test.  So my surgeon has been wanting to perform this surgery for awhile....but at least it is behind me.....a little sore but looking forward to no more "episodes"

i am so grateful in finding this post- i started having pains on my right side 4 weeks ago- the pains were where my gallbladder used to be- down to my belly button and my lower right side.  i thought i was nothing, then it got so bad i ended up in E.R.- the dr kindly told me i was constipated- which i was not- had i been i would have gotten ahold of my nutritonist or my dr to find out what to do.
the e.r. dr refered me back to my regular dr. - she requested an ultrasound to make sure i didnt have any stones in my bile duct-  everything checked out-ok . i had a new sypmton arise last nite- the middle of my stomach starting having pains and felt like i was gonna throw up. all day today i have been very cold- i even had to wear a jacket- and it was like 90 degrees outside. i went for a ct scan this afternoon- hoping they find something wrong that i am not going crazy.

i ended up in the emergency room in the early hours of tuesday morning becasue the pain was so intense - the e.r docs tried telling me that I had  "gas" which i know wasnt true. they just dont know how to deal with gastric bypass patients. i got in with the p.a. the same day - i am so miserable. the p.a. said having constipation problems for 4 weeks is a lil too long. i am scheduled for an MRI on thursday to see if they can see anything on that scan. right now i am on valium at nite for the pain and so i can sleep and tylenol  with coedine during the day. the p.a. said at the top of their list is to look for is an internal hernia- but she also did state that sometimes they dont show up on the scans. right now I am off of work until next tuesday- pending the outcome of the scans.

I had basically a Gastric Bypass surgery April 8th 2009, mine was discribed as a Gastrojejunostomy with fundolopication (was for severe GERD). I have lost 135lbs since the surgery but have had bouts of pain and nausia off and on since the surgery. I have reported into my surgeon several times and he had me convinced that it was just my body healing and that I was fine. (Basically imagining it). As of April 2010 I moved to Washington State for a job at Tacoma General Hospital. I started having pain and nausia in early June. Since I didn't have my new insurance yet I went to the urgent care clinic a few times and also called the consulting nurse. They basically felt it was nerves due to the new job, I was forced to go onto a liquid diet because of the pain when ever i eat. As the issue persisted and got worse I ended up in the Hospital June 28th because of the severity of the pain and had been vomiting for 3hrs.  They did a CT without contrast and felt I was stable so sent me home with the referral to a GI Specialist nearby to see as soon as my new insurance kicked in on July 1st. It took time to get into the specialists office, they didn't have an appointment till July 20th so I decided I should also try to get a family Dr in the area. When I went to see them last Tuesday, I was told that the CT from the hospital showed as abnormal. They wanted one immediately with contrast and barium. I went in the next day. I received the Results back monday that I have a Internal Hernia at the surgical site. I am scheduled for a surgical consult Monday and also after seeing the GI Specialist, I am to have an Upper Endoscopy done to rule out any thing else also going on. I have been on a Liquid diet for 6 weeks now and really hope to end it soon. I am wondering how long other people were off for the repair? I am not quite at my 90days probation period and really don't want to chance loosing my job.
