HI... I have never seen this board and am hoping someone here can help me. I have been having spells with severe stomach pain for a year now.  (I am 2 yrs out from GBS)The pain is in the middle of my upper abdomin and a little towards the left side. It is very sharp and intense. My stomach also gets very bloated and distended. It hurts to touch my stomach when this is happening and uncomfortable to move around. I also have alot of intestinal gas that sometimes causes belching. (gross I know) Eating and drinking make it worse. This lasts for days at a time or just a few hours. No bowel problems. My doctors have treated me for ulcers and diverticulitis. Neither of these tx worked. CT scans show nothing. My GB surgeon did an exploratoy last September and found some adhesions, but the pain is back.  I am desperate. I am in so much pain and I don't know where to go now. I have seen my PCP twice in the last week. They are sending my to a gastro-intestinal specialist, but he can't see me until June 28th. I am in so much pain it is really affecting the quality of my life. Does anyone have any idea what this could be?  Thanks for any help you can give me. Scarlette

Scarlette,

I just wanted you to know I can empathize with you. I'm sorry you're having so much pain. I've been having pain too and we've decided to do a reversal of my RNY to see if it helps. I am scheduled for June 4th. I've have had all the tests too and everything comes back normal. It is very frustrating.

Take care,

Jill

HI Jill Thanks for the support.  I am sorry you are having pain as well. that's a big step to have your surgery reversed.  Good luck with that. I am going to a gastro specialist in a few weeks. Hoping to find an answer.  Someone on this site mentioned celiac disease and I have been on a gluten free diet for three days now and haven't had any pain in two days. Could just be coincidense. As much as I want an answer I hope it's not celiac because it's a very hard diet to stick too. I'm going to stick to it til I see the dr in a few weeks and if I am still having less pain I'm going to ask to be tested for it.  Good luck and I hope you have a speedy recovery.   Scarlette

Scarlette,

I'm glad you're having a reprieve from your pain. What a blessing huh? I'm just hoping I feel good enough this weekend to take my daughter to the mall and get her "Sal****er" sandals. She's so excited. New shoes are a big deal in our house. And I have a picnic on Monday. So if I get to do these two things i'll be very happy. Thank you for the well wishes.

I've been having some pain here and there. My RD did mention that it may be celiac? She mentioned to stay away from all that good stuff. I have not. I've been feeling better it's just that I don't know when the pain is going to hit! Good luck and I'm sorry I can't help much.

Thanks for the reply.  I have been on the diet for a week and have had no pain. It could be coincedence, but when I see the dr in a few weeks I'm asking alot of questions.  I don't eat alot of carbs, but it would suck to never be able to have a cracker or toast.... or a cookie. YIKES!

Follow the glutin free diet. I had the exact same problems about 7 years ago and my GI doctor tested me for the disease. My blood showed positive but biopsy was negitive. So my GI said do the diet and see what happens. Well, I fell 100% better! Also do you still have your gallbladder? It may be that. Pray you feel better soon!

I know it's been awhile since you posted.  I hope you are feeling better.  I don't want to alarm you, but with RNY there is about a 2% chance of bowel obstruction, which can be life threatening.  I would ask your WLS surgeon and just rule this out ASAP.  I am currently preop and doing a lot of research and I know that this is a possiblity.  Please let me know how it goes.
