To make a long story short.... I had gastric bypass surgery (open) 2 yrs ago. All went pretty well no major complications. I noticed a hernia and had it repaired on Jan 25th (Incisional open repair) and surgeon was also removing scar tissue. It was much more painful then I expected and I was taking quite a lot of pain medication (vicodin every 4 hrs) along with advil. I did get constipated and took something for it which helped. Then two days later (A week from the hernia repair surgery) I went to hospital via ambulance with severe stomach pain. I was in hosptial 12 hrs while they ran tests and then transported me to another hospital so my surgeon could do exploritary surgery to see what was going on. Doctor said he removed some intestines, as I had twisted and dead intestines. He does not know what caused this. Thats really all the info he gave me and I'm really unsure what happend and why? Any suggestions? Ideas or advice? Are obstructions like this sometimes caused by a hernia repair surgery? OR from taking the pain meds and becoming constipated? Has anything like this happened to anyone else? It was a very scary thing and now I'm scared to death to take my pain meds and am still in a lot of pain! Thanks for any info you can give me!

I had an internal herina repair in September; my surgeon said if surgery wasn't performed gangene would have set in. I am sure this is part of the dead intestine. The scar tissue was wrapped so tight around my intestine until he had to perform the procedure open and took his hands and unwrap the intestine. He also told me before surgery not to take any NSAIDS. Isn't advil in that family? What did your doctor say about this pain medication? He told me because of the WLS, gallbladder removal or anything moved around in the stomach cause these issues. He told me he did all he could to make sure it wouldn't happen again but no guarantee. If I complain about pain in my stomach, he wants to see me right away. Can you call your surgeon and asked all the unanswered question? I hope all get better for you. Hang in there! Happy Friday! Ms. Splenda

I am so very sorry to read about your poor health and pain!!! Please read and research so that you have good information. I do have information on my profile regarding my experience......however, a twisting or kinking of the intestine can be a complication of ANY abdominal surgery.   You can research such things as: adhesions intestinal blockage bowel obstruction hernia etc. Reputable sites are webmd.com and the world renowned medical training facilities! I hope ths helps!

I have two sides to my brain - a right side and a left side.  The trouble is sometimes there is nothing left in the right side and nothing right in the left side.
