losing to much weight
I am 16 months post op & I have had many complications mostly with kidney stones & problems but recently with the flu also. I started out at 274 & now 114 never have I stopped losing weight. Now they are talking about putting a feeding tube in. I am hoping I am not the only one that has had this problem & if you have had it could you please respond to this.
I am just nauseated all the time or have diarrehea. I have had a scope last week no ulser. I am back sending in daily logs to dietition & she talks to the docs. I am not getting 1200 calories in a day. Yes I am doing breakfast drinks. But being lastose intolerant doesn't help either.
please please get back to me.
I am 19 months out. My current weight is now 95 lbs. I too stay nauseated or have the poops. I am on a butt load of meds. I am suppose to get in 1800 cals. a day. The doctor told me to keep living I must get in that much. But I can't!!!!!! I can't do milk.I do eat some protein bars. I only like the apple ones. I have had so many test done. In and out of the hospital. And the doctor still has not found a thing. I am in the hospital about every 3 months. I was on tpn fluids ( jars of fat) to put weight on me. When I got to the hospital I only weighed 88 lbs. When I left 8 days later I was up to 95. Good luck to you and I hope both of us get better.
Amy
Hi Amy, you say on your profile that you like being "a little thin person". I hope that you are not purposely keeping your weight so low as you had a beautiful face when you were 120lbs and you said you were "a little chubby". Now you look like a "Very little, very old lady". You do not look youthfull with two pig tales. You really look like an old sickly woman. Please eat something so that you can get healthy and look beautiful again.
I am not hating. This is tough love, this is the truth. You have beautiful children and you are not going to be around for them if you keep your weight so low. Have you tried Muscle Milk full strength? One shake can run you 638 calories!!! Best, Leila
I constantly have diarrehea. The only thing I found to keep weight on is to EAT EAT EAT. I eat ALL DAY. Although I run back and forth to the bathroom, at least some calories are being absorbed (more than when I was only eating 3 meals) This is a day in my life:
Wake up - eat yogurt
Breakfast - grilled cheese sometimes with bacon
snack - cheese & crackers, or some chocolate :)
lunch - pasta with chicken and lots of cheese
snack - either more yogurt or crackers
2nd lunch - usually what ever I have left over
then I eat when I get home, usually some deli meats and cheese
then I will fix dinner and eat that
and I will eat again before I go to bed
and I drink soda ALL day long for the extra calories
I was 291, I am now 141 and 5'8 I like the weight I am at, but if I go one day without eating like this, I will lose about 3 - 4 lbs. Dr's tell me to take immodium for the diarrehea, but then I have back pain if I dont use the bathroom... so I can't win for losing. So I just eat and eat and eat...I eat so much more than I did before I had the surgery.
Hey, I'm LeAnn. I started out at 281. I'm 5' 8". I'm down to around 145. I know that sounds like a good weight but it's all skin and bones. I look very thin. I've had two gbs. The first one in 2001. I lost 80 lbs and gained it back up to 279 and in 2005 I had a revision. Between the two surgeries I developed esophageal spasms and started what has now become chronic vomiting. I also have a condition called protein calorie malnutrition. I'm very weak and my gb took me off work for what was supposed to be 6 to 8 weeks but that was in early Jan. I am still losing weight and he won't put in a feeding tube because he thinks I should do it on my own and a feeding tube is not a permanant solution. My surgeon is one of the best in the country. His name is Dr Kenneth Warnock in Wichita Falls TX and he is ranked 24 in the top 25 gb surgeons in the country. At my last visit when I was still having problems I just knew he would put in a tube but he blew me away when he said if I don't improve within a month he will reverse my gb!!!!!! I went behind his back to my regular doc and he tried to put in a feeding tube but it gave me a panic attack at that did not go well at all. I have tried to find a doc who had experience in treating malnutrition and you would really be surprised at the fact that not only do they even ignore the possibility in the first place but when you finally get diagnosed (by an endocrinologist) that nobody knows how to treat it. I have tried everything I can think of to get my malnutrition cured without having to have a reversal but it hasn't happened. So this next Monday morning I have to check into the hospital down in Wichita Falls and be fed nutrients via iv to get my body healthy enough to have a reversal then I just don't know. My doc has only had to do this to a couple of his patients and he said they did gain their weight back. I can't get in enough calories either and what I do eat I throw back up. You posted back in Jan so maybe you won't even check this. I hope you do and I want to know what has happened to you since. I'm gonna paste this on it's own forum too--not just a reply in case any one has any feedback for me. I know your condition is life threatning as is mine and I'd really like to find out what they did for you and how you are. email me at [email protected] Please!!!! None of this is Dr Warnocks fault. And I hope it doesn't scare anyone from having gb. This is a very rare result and is due to my esophageal spasms which had not been diagnosed before my second gb.
Thank God I logged on today ... I started out at 5'10" inches at 345 (in hospital bed weight immediately after surgery). Today I weigh 137 pounds (with shoes on at doctor's office yesterday) .... I have many other health problems which have complicated my life and have basically put me back on bed rest so I have managed to gain back 10 pounds and I've managed to keep them on for 2 weeks but have not been able to gain any more. My doctor and I want to see at least a 20 pound gain. I have lost muscle and the cushioning between my joints which is severly affecting my lupus and fibromyalgia. I seem to live on ensure, boost, EAS, other protein drinks and a few bars. I get absolutely sick of eating/drinking the same things. I have managed to work up my sugar tolerance so that at nite i can (i know it is a no-no) mix soda ½ diet and ½ real to sip when i wake during the nite for empty calories. I constantly have the runs. I try daily to eat "solid" foods some days it works -- others it causes severe cramping ... mostly due to other health problems. I am supposed to start physical therapy and an exercise routine to help with my arthritis, etc. which will only cause me to burn more calories which means taking in more calories ... it is a very viscious cycle and i am at a total loss on how to GAIN weight back. I have friends and family who think i've slipped into anorexia, but they don't see how i fight every day to force calories in. They don't see the nausea from the meds, etc. If anyone has any other suggestions I would love to hear them. All of my doctors agree that if i could only gain back about 20 pounds my body could more easily support my weight and my pain levels would decrease.
Penny,
I am 19 mo out and am having a reversal of my RNY on June 4th due to malnutrition and pain. I am 5"6" and now weigh 120. I am not a small boned person and I am skin and bones. This pic of me is 6 mos ago so don't go by that. I am lactose intolerant too. And to make matters worse not only do I have no appetite I just about cry when i see food because it just overwhelmes me. I hate eating. I went a week without eating or drinking because I laid in bed depressed about my situation and got so sick and weak I couldn't even walk. My friends had to carry me to the car and take me to the hospital to get IV fluids. I was shaking and sweating and they couldn't even get a temp on me it was so low. They said I was in shock. I honestly felt like I was dying. I'm not telling you this to scare you, i'm just warning you how serios this can get. Please do whatever you have to do to take care of yourself. Do your feeding tube and if you have to do reversal do that too. This is just my experience, I hope you don't mind me being so blatant.
Take good care,
Jill
