my name is amanda harrell and i had lap rny on monday, november 27, 2006. on saturday, december 23, 2006 i woke up at 5:45am with intense abdominal pain. i was rushed to the er and then was rushed to the hospital where my surgeon is at for emergency surgery to repair an ulcer that had perforated. i have never in my life had ulcers with the exception of canker sores (mouth ulcers). my h. pylori breath test came back negative before the surgery and my surgeon isn't quite sure what to make of the situation. he says it's very rare for this to happen to someone as far out as i was (nearly 4 weeks at the time) and that he doesn't know what caused it. it was (is) located just inside my intestines where they join my new stomach pouch. i am currently on 10ml of carafate every 6 hours around the clock and prevacid once daily. i can really, really tell when it's getting to be time for either of these medicines because i start to get really sick and am in tons of horrible pain until i am able to take my meds. and god forbid if i'm ever LATE with one or the other of them! anyway, i just wanted to share my experience and to see if there was anybody on this board who had a similar thing happen to them and their thoughts on the matter.
Happy To Be A.

My sister had an ulcer in her intestine 6 months after surgery, she did not perferate but had to do the carafate/previcid treatment too. I think they can happen at any time. We have to be so carefull, especially if we take any meds. I hope all will heal nicely and you will begin to enjoy the new you! Peace~pam

I have been searching the boards to find an answer to a pain I am experiencing in the pit of my stomach....it's not an excruciating pain but it is a pain.  Tylenol helps for about 2-3 hours, I wonder if it could be an ulcer....I wonder if I should take previcid.  I do take meds for diabetes and now wonder if this could be the cause.  I will call my doctor tomorrow.

Youre not alone.  I had my surgery 05152006 woke up with extreme back pain.  I thought they had operated on the wrong part of my body.  Ended up having my gall bladder out 08-31-2006 .....still had the back pain got diagnosed with an ulcer ( at the joining of the intestine to my new pouch) in October 2006 , tried progressivly treating it for 4 + months ( hopsitalized several times still with the ulcer) Finally they removed the ulcer January 9th 2007.  Still have the dead center back pain.  They are not sure what is wrong with me.  I am eating and drinking better .  I was tkaing Carafate 4 times a day and prevacid twice a day and that didn't even touch the ulcer.  I wish you the best of luck.
