Port Flippage
This morning I went in for a fill and was told that my port flipped. Consequently, I will need another procedure to flip the port around. Has this happened to anyone else? I have so many questions. Should I go back to the same surgeon? She admitted that this is her second flippage (she has not had many lap band patients) and I am concerned. Will this second procedure cost me? She assured me that this was not due to anything I'd done/not done. After the second procedure, will I have similar down time (due to anesthesia, incision healing, et cetera)? Any insight would be appreciated. Happy Thursday!
I went for a fill today, 12-12-06, because I have been hungry since my surgery on 11/01/06. They told me I should feel full after 1/2 of a lean quisine. I went for a fill today and after 13 attempts they told me they thought my port had flipped. I was hysterical. I paid for this myself after losing everything after hurricane Katrina (no flood insurance). I have only lost 13 lbs. since surgery, which I feel like I lost to my own self control. I am going for an xray tomorrow. Is this common? I was worried about slippage, not flippage. How much is this going to cost? Anyone out there with the same problem? Please email me. [email protected]. Thanks, Kelly
As a normal Lean Cuisine is just about 1 cup of food, you should not be told to expect to feel full/satisfied on half that amount. You are not an RNY patient. Properly restricted bandsters eat between 1 to 1 1/2 cups of solid food per meal, 50-60g of protein from food, 1200-1500 cal/day. That can't be done on 1/2 cup meals. The math just doesn't work out.
Make sure you make your fillgivers adhere to the 3-strikes rule...this is very important. Don't let them jab you more than 3 times when trying to access the port. Repeating sticking and missing can cause them to hit the tubing connecting the port to the band and cause a leak in the system. Did they try you under flouro? After 3 blind attempts, the next step is flouro. You need to insist on this. It's also the only way they can tell if the port is actually flipped or off-angle.
