11 months out - pain in back

I had RNY in November 05. Actually, it was a revision to RNY from a 16 year old VBG. I have no gall bladder - that was removed about 4 years ago. I have had severe back pain, usually at night that wakes me up. The first time was about a month ago when I took some cold medication. I found that eating something helped the pain to go away. Since the first time I have had it several times, always waking me up at night. The pain is so bad that if I didn't get relief (usually from eating some crackers) I would likely need to go to the emergency room. I am wondering if this could be an ulcer. I do not smoke and I do not take NSAIDS. Anyone have anything similar to this? Thanks for your help! Lynne

YES! I had the symptoms you stated above and it was an ulcer -- they found it by doing an endoscopy. I would get back pain that would go away about 5 minutes after I would eat something. They put on some medicine and it cleared up for a while, but it creeps bac****asionally. I also noticed an occasional metallic taste in my mouth. If you don't want to go to the doctor, I would get some Prilosec OTC and take it for the 14 day routine and see if it helps. I went on Nexium and some stuff to coat my tummy.

Thank you Ann. Yours is the only reply I've had and I kind of had the feeling it was probably an ulcer. When I first had my surgery I was on protonix for a while, which I think is like Prilosec. I will take the Prilosec and see if that helps.

YUP YUP YUP my only concern was this horrible back pain , gall bladder got taken out..still had back pain then I got diagnosed with an ucler 10-02-2006 and again in the hospital the week of Thanksgiving, found out the ulcer hasn't gotten better it has gotten worse. Now I am planning on surgery in January to cut the ulcer out.
