Ulcers fromsutures that connect stomach to intestines
Has anyone experienced ulcers from the sutures that the doctor used internally? I was recently hospitalized due to heavy bleeding. So heavy that they wanted to give me a blood transfusion but I declined. They determined that I had ulcers at the site where the new stomach was attached to the intestines. My doctor claimed that he uses a heavy material to prevent leaks but it also may cause ulcers. Anyone experience anything like this? I am now on sulcrafate and nexium so far so good.

Hi Amy: I just came home from 4 days in the hospital with a bleeding ulcer. They think the surgery may have caused it because I never take any medicine that would have caused this and I do not smoke. They didn't say it was the sutures though. It happened so quickly and I was so sick really fast. It was really scary. I am now taking Carafate and Protonix. I hope you are feeling better and will have no more problems. I hope more patients will respond.
Hi Barbara,
Thanks for your response. Did you have blood in your stool an that was how they discovered it??? Did you feel fine otherwise?? I felt fine otherwise. How long did it take for it to stop? How long ago did you have your surgery? My surgery was on May 24th 2006. I hope that this is not an ongoing problem??? What did your doctor say in tierms of this continuing? I have an appointment with my surgeron in two weeks to discuss it.
Good luck. Hope you are feeling better and thanks for your response.

I have been treated since Oct. 2nd with carafate and prevacid solutab with no luck was hospitalized the week of Thanksgiving .........found out the ulcer was bigger. Now I have to have surgery in January to remove this ever growing ulcer. Has me scared to death. Please know you are not alone
