My first name should be Complication! Three weeks after my surgery in April 2001 I had a pulmonary embolism and was diagnose with a little known clotting disorder called Anti-phosphose Lipid Anti-coagulation syndrome. The English call it "Sticky Blood Syndrome" So since that time I have had multiple clots even with Coumadin on board. I've had three major hernia surguries (over 4 hours under anesthesia)Each time with severe infections post op, wound vacs on for 18 months total. About three years ago I started getting anemic...A year ago April I was hospitalized for bleeding from somewhere in the intestines...I also made two dandy clots along my pic lines. Try that folks, bleeding and clotting simultaneously!!! I had every test known to man including swallowing the little camera and they never found out why I was bleeding. Any way I was in the hospital for 30 days that time. Since then I have been anemic or low iron chronically. Finnally we figured out that I was no longer in the catching up phase and was really still loosing blood. So my question...Has anyone had these symptoms? Can the other stomach get ulcers? Can a staple line bleed into the intestines...I know I'm reaching but I'm stumped and need some answers...thanks for letting me blab. Mary

Mary, Unfortunately any of these things that you mentioned can and do happen. I also had an uncontrollable bleeding problem that no tests could find. I had many tests over and over like yourself, and until the bleeding got so bad I had to have surgery to find and stop it. It was actually finally located under my strictured closed stoma not visible or reachable with any scope, camera, scan or anything else. When I first began these bleeding "episodes" they were very isolated like once in 6 months, by the end though I wound up unable to stay out of the hospital for more than 48 hours and needing more and more units of blood each time until at the end it was 9 units at once and I still was anemic and unable to keep it in, at that point surgery was emergent. By the end I knew all of the signs and symptoms all too well and knew when to get myself to the hospital. I fainted many times because of this as well. Hope this helps and they locate your bleed soon and it does not get worse. Sorry to hear of all of your complications, just know you are not alone. Cindi

I totally can sympothize with you....I to had complications with my blood..I had my bypass and then 3 days later I ended up with internal bleeding and a hematoma on my hip the size of a football..it grew in 30 mins from the size of a quarter to the football size..unlike you I knew I had a blood disorder....and so did my surgeon and the hemotologist that he used..unfortunately they didnt know enough.....the lack of their knowledge put me into the hospital for 2 1/2 months fighting for my life....it was the worst thing I have ever been through...I was on a wound vac for 2 months with 6 surgeries to debreave the wound and make it heal...well from all this I will forever have a hole that is like a football and 5" deep in my hip.....the weight is coming off...but the price I paid with this hip wound wasnt worth it...I also went through the upper endoscopy before I had surgery and the doctor said my stomach was healthy and not signs of problems..in the hospital not only was there bleeding but I also had ulcers that needed treating..anyway...I just wanted to let you know that you are not alone.
