Has anyone had or know of anyone that has had any problems with their staples coming out and what should I expect if it were to happen to me?? Long story short, I over ate yesterday and had the most severe stomache pains for over 2 - 3 hrs then I had to make my self throw up and I threw up quite abit for such alittle pouch and ever since then I have had this weird sensation in my stomache(could all be in my head) and I have been very hot today and sweating, something I havent been in a long time......

My staple line developed a leak and now I am using a feeding tube through my old stomach while the new one heals...it has been 2 weeks now. i was told it would be anywhere from 1-6 weeks. I was told it only happens to 1% of population, so be careful

Hi David.... I developed a ruptured STL post surgically due to an abcsess and it took almost 6 full weeks to heal. My thoughts are with you as you go through the feedings. I know what you are going thru...sending u positive thoughts! Dawn

I had an anastomosis leak (the connection from pouch to small bowel) and had to have a drain for 3 months. And as far as the % of patients with this. I think the 1% is way low. The stats are usually counted only while in the hospital and immediately post-op. The same goes with all the stats. When the physician was stapling my stomach, the first gun misfired. He tried a second gun and it too misfired. It took the third gun to staple me up. See why you have leaks?

Sorry to hear about all your complications. But I've gotta question. How did you find out that the staple gun misfired? Did you ask or did they volunteer the information? My surgeon tells me nothing. Thanks!

Susan, You are right...the surgeon doesn't tell you everything. The ONLY way I know is because I asked for a COMPLETE copy of my hospital chart before I left the hospital. It took me a couple of weeks, but they sent it. It is not usually that easy, but the "boss" was off and the secretary sent it to me. That is why I know that he "nicked" my spleen and could not control the bleeding and that he "nicked" my pancreas and had to use a mesh to stop the bleeding. It has nearly been 2 years and often the thought to sue has come to my mind, but it would not change what was done. I just wish that surgeons or physicians in general, would be open and honest about what happens. I guess the reason they withhold information is because our world have become "suit happy". Hope all is well with you..
