I had lap gastric bypass on 5/30/06. Since last monday, the 19th, I haven't been able to keep down any purees. I was told that as long as I could keep down liquids, I was ok. Well, this morning I woke up only NOT to be able to even keep down liquids. I couldn't take any meds( phenergen, etc) or vitamins or anything. Has this happened to anyone and what are some suggestions?

This happened to me and I was told to go to the emergency room. Ended up that my intestines had closed and nothing could get through. They had to go back in through the same incisions and open up the intestines. My Gastric bypass was on 5/26 and I started foods on 5/5. It took a couple days for everything to back up. Hopefully you have talked to your doc and he will investigate! Good luck to you.

YES! I had lap RNY on 5/02/06 and the last month has been brutal. I haven't been able to eat anything without getting nauseous. I've had a barium swallow and a CT and evverything looks great. They can't tell me why I'm getting sick. I just got out of the hospital because I was so dehydrated. (The food would make me nauseous and I couldn't drink anything.) I gained 15 lbs. of fluid in 48 hours and as soon as I tried to eat, I got sick again. This time it waws cottage cheese (about 3 TBS.) and some fruit. This morning I had dry heaves after 1/4 c. of cream of wheat. I'm very frustrated, but no one can tell me why I get so sick. My mom says "Just buck up and drink your water!" So, that's what I'm going to do. You need to get to your Dr. ASAP and make sure everything is working...don't let yourself get dehydrated...it plain ole sucks! Good luck! Phyl

I had the same problem. I had surgery on 5/24/06 and my stomach never felt good even when I was drinking water. I had an endoscopy where they dialated the opening to my stomach last Tuesday, and it has seemed to help. I only vomitted once after, but I accidently ate a shrimp with a shell on it, so I think my stomach was not too happy with that. Good Luck to you!!!

I had my surgery in April, and I ended up with the vomiting issue about 3 weeks post op and it ended up being a stricture--the opening into my intestines was closed up.....so I went through a total of 4 surgeries to stretch it back out...but, now I am perfectly fine. Good Luck to you and definitely get it checked out.

Foxy, were you ever able to control the vomiting? I was just reading through some old posts looking for information. Hope all is well. Sonja S

NO - I had a stricture and had to go and let them balloon it open. I had to have that done twice. After that I was fine. There is nothing that I know of that can control that vomitting - not even phenergen. Talk with your surgeon and hopefully they will recommend an upper GI like mine did. I was told that having strictures is common. Good luck to you!
