A little scared
I am in the middle of applying for wls and am reading as much info as I can. Many of the articles I have read says that divorce is very common after weight loss surgery. One said as many as 75% divorce after wls. Can anyone tell me if this is exagerated or if this is truthful? The part that really scares me is if I don't have wls is the fact that I won't be around long to enjoy my marriage anyways.
Jamie,
I'm pre-op (disclosure). I've read a lot on here about people drifting apart or whatever after one has gone through a dramatic weight loss. I guess maybe people who are overweight might feel like they have "settled" for less than what they want in a partner. I don't think you should worry about statistics on this issue--it's so personal and everyone's marriages are different. I was thin when my husband and I were dating and I don't feel like I've settled for anything. But some women have never had an opportunity to feel sexy or attractive, and maybe have never received a lot of attention from other men. Then all of the sudden they're being approached or whatever. Who knows why people do what they do? If your spouse is supportive and you guys love each other, don't worry. You get what you give.
And that's my two cents!
