WLS stomach issues
It is hard to believe it has been 2 1/2 yrs on the 17th of this month since I have had WLS! What a journey! Sometimes I did not think I would ever get through all the "issues" of this surgery. I still have some stomach aches and nausea almost daily but it only lasts for a little while. I wonder if it will ever totally go away? It has pretty much just became a way of life for me. I really hate it when it happens at work because I can not just lay down - I just have to get through it. But even with everything that I go through I would still do it again in a heartbeat! I love my new life! God is so good! Does anyone who is 2 yrs or more out still deal with these issues or does it eventually go away? God Bless! Laura
Laura, I've never really had a problem with stomach aches or nausea. As long as I do not eat a lot of carbs or sweets I do okay. I have problems with my blood sugar bottoming out and sometimes my heart will beat really hard when I do over indulge in sweets. Then I just have to sit down for a while and let it pass. That is the only part of dumping that I still have. By the way, I'm 3+ years out. Anyway, God bless!

Laura,
I am just over two years out and I have a little nausea almost every day. It bothers my husband, so I try not to tell him for the most part. I think it is just the way my body reacts to the food I eat. I also get a little sick if I need to eat. I don't know if it will ever go away or not, but I would not trade this surgery for anything. I am 5'6", I started at 235 and now I am 130. I am happy.

Hi Laura, I'm sorry for these stomach aches and nausea that you are still having. I have never had either really. I can't remember the exact numbers but I read that a certain percentage of people will have nausea and vomiting problems post op. for most it only lasts a few months at the most. A smaller percentage do have long term problems with it. I'm glad that overall you are still glad for having the surgery. You didn't mention if it is eating that triggers the problem or it just comes whatever no matter what. I hope this will go away, I think it would be worthwhile to speak to your doctor, maybe you have an ulcer or maybe taking something like prilosec would help.
Best Wishes!
Hey Laura,
I am sorry to here that you are still having nausea after 2 1/2 years. That must be hard for you. I am only about 5 mos out and to be honest, I have been looking forward to the day down the road when I don't dump anymore. I did not realize that it affected some people for so long. For the most part, I do not have a problem with nausea as long as I am eating the right things. Sugars are absolutely out for me and I figure they will be for a long while. Carbs are difficult too. I can eat them in VERY small amounts. But even then, I feel really sluggish for a while afterwards.
I do want all of you long term post ops to know that I am so inspired by all of you and I really appreciate you guys telling us about how things are going now. I especially appreciate hearing you all say that you are still happy with your decision.
I am happy too. I love my new life!
God bless you all!
Love, Jacinda
