Water hurts my pouch
What do you do when it hurts to drink water. Yesterday it wasn't so bad to drink. Today my stomach really cramps even with tht littlest sips. If I drink other liquid i.e. milk or juice can it count towards my 48 oz of water.
If you found something that did not hurt your pouch when water did - please email me and let me know what it is and where it can be purchased.
Oh Jen, how I remember! Sometimes, even 2 yrs ou****er will still hurt my pouch. I do ok if it is room temp, but not cold. It's wierd because I can drin**** cold tea with no problem. My doc has said it is normal. He doesn't even understand. I never use to drink coffee until I was about 6 months out, now I drink it constantly. I think that tea, minute maid light, crystal light, etc... still counts towards your liquid intake. Also, try not to drink it too fast or you may get an air bubble which also hurts.
Good luck & may God bless you.

Hi Jen Jen,
Do you feel sick when you eat? When this happened to me I ended up having a stricture. I just drank very slowly I could only consume 16 oz's. in an entire day. My nutritionist said to drink propel fitness water(vitamins)and warm liquids, and if it got to where I couldn't get anything in at all, to go to the E.R.. Hope you feel better soon.
God bless you,
Annette
Yes, water hurt when I drank right after surgery. I could not drink could water at all, it had to be room temperature. Crystal light, tea, etc. went down no problem while being cold bu****er that was a no-no. Now being 4 weeks post-op I can drink cold water but it has to be sipped not gulped for me or I will get pains. I went to a support group last week and the nutritionist said that Crystal Light, Tea, and even your SF popcicles counted towards the 48 oz.
Good luck to you! It will get better!!!

Being that you are only 3 days out from surgery, it is not surprising that your stomach hurts. I'm assuming that you are on a liquid diet, so you are only drinking broth? I had a hard time getting anything down becuase I was so nauseous. Remember that the anesthesia causes nausea and, to make matters worse, the longer we have 'nothing' in our stomachs the longer we feel sick...and yes, water triggers a negative reaction when our stomachs are empty. Hang in there. Cystal ligh****er with lemon, broth, popsicles, and even ice helps.
Hi Jen Jen,
I didn't realize you were only 3 days out~ Chances are very good that you don't have a stricture. Any time you have pain like this so early out you should call your surgeon and tell him/her. It may just be a grouchie pouchie, but it could be something more serious. I'm not trying to scare you, but you should call just to be safe.
God bless you,
Annette
Hi Jen!
Congratulations on your surgery! This surgery has truly been a miracle for me and I pray that the Lord will bless your efforts.
The water - ah yes, I had the same problem shortly after surgery too. One thing with me was that I was so thirsty and the sipping business just didn't cut it. But I took it slow and eventually worked up to where I needed to be. But it was painful at first. Don't go too long though without making sure you are getting your water - Call your doctor right away if you can't drink! Dehydration is the one thing that sends WLS patients back to the hospital quicker than anything. After I was able to get my full 64 oz. in, I must not have been thinking and guzzled my water - the pain was unbearable. I pretty much just walk around with my water all the time. I have a camelback (water backpack) that I use when I am skiing but I am tempted to use it all the time!!
I love you and I will pray that your recovery is uneventful and that you will get the water in!
God Bless,
Lynda

I absolutely cannot drink water. It's totally painful. I asked my dietician and she said anything DECAF can count toward your water intake. So, I'd say yes your juice/milk counts. For me, the warmer/hot liquids go down so much easier. I usually end up getting my liquids in with herbal teas and occasionally decaf coffee.
Lately, I can't even drink ANYTHING cold. That has been difficult. And, the kicker, it didn't start until about 3 weeks out...bummer.
Hi Jen Jen. Sounds like you got some very good advice from everyone. Do keep us posted on how you're doing. I still have problems drinking water at times, and I am 5 months out. Usually the first thing in the morning is the toughest. It's like I have to wake up my pouch or something! Anyway, I'm glad you posted, and I look forward to hearing more from you. God bless.
