Hi all! I hope everyone has recovered from the "holidays" and are well into your new year, keeping all those resolutions and stuff. I don't bother to make resolutions because I can never keep them more than 3 days. I have been really upset and freaking out these past 2 weeks. I did not gain ANY weight from Thanksgiving through the new year. In fact, since I had surgery (1-29-04) I have not experienced any gain at all, except for the normal monthly thing. Then about a week and a half ago, I got on the scale and I was up 6 pounds then again this past Tuesday and I was up another 2. I have gone from 130 pounds to 138 pounds in less than a week. Needless to say, I freaked! I have not done anything different. So, Tuesday morning I upped the protein and water. It is Friday morning and the scale still reads 138! What the??? It is NOT time for the monthly thing and the most I usually go up for that is 3 pounds. I am mad and sad and in a bit of a panic. I was sooo hoping to reach my goal of 125 by my 2nd year WLS anniversary. One thing I have noticed is I can eat more. I try to be really careful but I can definately eat more now. I really wi**** was back to the days of only being able to eat a 1/4 of something. Oh well, I just needed to rant and even though I am just a lurker here on this board I felt like this was a safe place to come vent! Oh BTW, I am a Married, Christian mother of 3 grown children. Was raised in a Pastor's home and love the Lord with all my heart. I live in the great state of Texas!! Would love to get to know some of you! Have a great day everyone, Suzzette

Susie Q, ( I like that! I have a SusieQ of my own, my oldest daughter), I just read your post, and tho I haven't had my surg. yet(16 Jan), I will be praying for you!! This is something that I have wondered about down the line. I can tell you what my Dr. answered me about it on my pre-op visit . He said that most pts. will loose 80% of their excess wt., and within 2yrs. will regain19-20% of that loss, than even out. He said the best strategy is to work to loose every bit of wt you can within that window of opportunity , and have established all the new habits that include the right abounts of vitamins, etc, protein, and learn to think and exercise like an athlete. In my case, a 56y/o athlete, and exercise 30-40 min., 5 days a week. It sounds as if a small amount of wt. regain is inevitable, but I have sure seen lots of examples here on OH, that people have NOT regained in years up to 9-10!! The best advice I can give as one who has not "been there" yet is to grab onto as many people as you can who are experienced, and talk about what they do. And 1st of all, before that, check with your Dr. Any drugs that you may take that could cause the gain? And wt. gain can also be a body's warning sign (like a fever), that there may be trouble somewhere else. Things like thyroid dysfunction, menopause, ect. Better to check it out when sighns forst appear. Well, I hope that is some help. I need to go, as carpet cleaners are on the way! Better get out of the jammies! Welcome to the forum, and you are welcome here anytime!! We will love getting to know you. I will not be posting after today for a while, but will get back as soon after my surg. as I can. I will be praying for you, Susie. Your feelings are soooo understandable about the wt. gain. Love in Christ, Kathy B.

Kathy, Thank you for much for your words of advice and encouragement!! I guess I was hoping I would be one of those people who do not have any regain. I am still 5, well now I guess it's 13 pounds from goal. Although I must admit, I reached my Dr's goal long ago. I haven't reached my personal goal yet. The reason I have been so upset is because in almost 2 years I have not had ANY regain of any kind. I am off of all meds. I was off of everything within 2 weeks, yes weeks, after having surgery. Don't get me wrong, I am so thankful for the weight loss so far...I just have this fear of going back the other way, which is what has happened my whole life... lose weight...gain weight.... lose it again...gain it back plus a little more. I just have this fear... and to see that scale go up for no apparent reason just made me scared and freaked out and sad. I just don't ever want to go back to being obese. Good luck on your upcoming surgery. What type are you having? I will be lifting you up in prayer. May God's peace envelope you. YSIC, Suzzette

Hi Suzie! That is wonderful that you got to goal. I hope to do the same and inching my way there slowly..... From all the many posts I have read here two things come to mind in regard to this issue: 1. most who make it to goal say the pounds do bounce around a little and they just have to stay on guard. 2. almost everyone says exercise is an important part of keeping it off. Blessings! (from a fellow Texan) Gina

Hi Suzzette! WELCOME! How wonderful that you have had such great successes. I am sorry you are struggling with the scale right now. I will be praying that God will give you peace about it. It sounds as though you are doing all the right things and I am sure in due time you will reap the benefits and God will honor your diligence. This surgery has been a miracle for me and I am praising God for His provisions but I am noticing up and down days too. I just need to stay the course and let God do the rest. I am glad you came here to vent. The people on this board are prayer warriors and love God - it is a safe place! I will be praying for you my sister! I love you! God Bless, Lynda Phil. 4:8
