Question...ladies only!!
Alright girls I'm starting to stress!! I am due to get my period on Friday, but when I am under a lot of stress it tends to come a week late. Needless to say I have been under a lot of stress. What will I do if I have it during my surgery? Won't that be nasty? I can't imagine having to deal with that on top of everything else! Has this happened to any of you? Doesn't anyone know how to bring on your period? Would it be crazy to take birth control so I won't get it? I have 2 refills of the pill left so I could start now and skip this month. Is that safe? AHHHH!! This is BY FAR the one thing I hate about being a female. WHY EVE WHY DID YOU HAVE TO EAT FROM THAT TREE AND CURSE US ALL??? LOL
Love,
Dawn
Dawn!
I've asked that question a few times! This is a good question for your doctor (not about Eve but about your period - thought I better qualify that ) - but I don't think I would mess with the pills right now. I will pray that you will relax and let God have control over this and that things will start on Friday. But guess what? This is a good place to vent about it! I hope you feel better just asking the question! But really if it does happen during your surgery at least a nice nurse can help you!
I love you!
God Bless,
Lynda

Hi Dawn. I think it is VERY common to have your period when you are in the hospital. I was hospitalized for pneumonia when I was 34. I had just had my period, and of course, I had it again in the hospital! Stress does that, so just don't let it bother you. The nursing staff is very used to this happening. You will deal with it if it happens. I am no expert about whether or not to be taking birth control pills. If in doubt, ask your doctor.
So now, take a big deep breath, Dawn. You are starting to stress over the little things in life. Focus instead on the big picture. Are you seeing it, Dawn? Do you see that wonderful woman 6 months from now who is slimmer, happier, more outgoing, with so much to offer to her Lord and to those around her? That is what you need to focus on, Dawn. The rest of these pesky little things are mear annoyances. They will come and they will go. You don't need to worry about them. You are safe in your Father's hands, and He will not let you stumble and fall.
I am praying for you, Dawn. God bless and keep you.
Love,
Peg
Ok...I can answer this one for ya...but you may not like the answer I give...LOL. The stress of the surgery itself tends to bring on a period in many women, even if you have recently had one, are not due for one, etc. Hate to break that one to ya, but it is something that was discussed during my seminar and classes. Try not to worry about it. They are used to it. I used to work in an OR. It is not that big of a deal, and chances are that with the sudden changes in your body after the surgery, if you have not already started, you will start then because rapid weight loss is linked with estrogen. The way my doctor explained it, having the surgery is a treatment for fertility. Some people (in fact I know one girl who at one month post op) get preggo after having this surgery who were not able to before...because the fat cells and estrogen are linked...so chances are...at some point during surgery/recovery...you may start...so you may want to be prepared just in case. Men don't know what to buy for that...LOL. Try not to worry about it. It is normal.

Stephanie
Stephanie,
I went to a pre-surgical education class today that was required by my doctor. One of the first things they said was the women will most like get their period in the hospital, even if they aren't due. Oh well. I'll get over it. I would rather get my period then find out I was pregnant like last time.
Love,
Dawn
Hi Dawn,
This is Brenda. It's been several weeks since I posted or replied to any posts in our forum. I don't know if you remember me but, you had replied to a question that I had posted about two months ago. Regarding your period, there is really nothing that you can do at this point to bring it on other than being prescribed a Provera challenge but, that's usually for people who haven't had their period for several months and have an existing gyn/medical condition that prevents them from experiencing regular menstrual cycles. If you've been on the pill for several months already, in my field, we usually advise people a month before a big event to skip their sugar pills and go right into their next week of pills and continue straight into their next pill pack so they won't get their period during the month of their big event. We advise people not to do this unless they have a very important event, such as for example, a wedding. If you have not been taking your pills, you would have to wait for your period to begin your pills in the first place. From my experience, we have performed procedures on patients during their period. Surgery is being performed on your GI tract not your female anatomy. Besides, a pad being present during surgery, the next thing that could be present is a urinary catheter to keep your bladder empty during your procedure and to assist the operating room staff in keeping an eye on your urine/fluid output. We don't think this is gross, we realize it's a normal part of a female patient's life and we just deal with it. Take a deep breath and breath out. Your period will come when it is ready, unfortunately it's not always when we want it to. I can definately sympathize with you, I too have been in your shoes when it comes to my period being late. Stress can cause havoc on our cycles. Big hug, you're in my prayers!
Brenda
Dear Dawn,
Yes, I have been there. I started my period the night before surgery. All the nurses were really sympathetic and understanding. Of course that didn't ease my embarassment. I have had my struggles with my periods before and after surgery. In June I had a gyn exam while on my period because it lasted over three weeks. Of course the day after the examination it stopped. Who can understand our bodies? Not me.
I started my period today in the middle of my endoscope procedure. Imagine my embarassment when I woke up and discovered I had a puddle of menstrual fluid under me. Not a good experience believe me.
Relax try not to stress and remember God is in control.

Dawn, guess what. I will be on cycle when I have my period too. Go figure. At least it is not on your honeymoon! I am not looking forward to that part either. But, I agree with everyone else, it will be a pain, but don't stress over it. I remember one time I witnessed a station wagon full of people, blow a tire, flip over and expell all 3 people through the windshield. I raced to comfort a young women who had her eye practically hanging out of her socket. We waited for 45 minutes for a helivac. She had some broken bones also, guess what she was worried about, her period!! She was so embarrassed to arrive at the emergency room on her period. We women!!!
Ok, one more story. I used to be a cop. Whenever you arrest someone, you have to strip search them before you put them in a cell. Not my favorite thing. Guess what, every single woman I ever strip searched was on her period!!! What's up with that? Are woman more likely to commit crimes when they are flowing?? Guess what they worried about, you guessed it. They were mortified over being on their period. They would appoligize in shame and embarassment, not for their crime, but for their period!!!! Can I get a smile???
Hello, J.Marie! I just read your response to Dawn's concern(about her period during surgery). I am still getting to know everyone on this site, and I chuckled so at your response, and enjoyed your unique way of showing insight into things, so I punched up your profile, and I must say it made my day!! I laughed, chuckled, and than got teary-eyed. Than the pic of you hooked up to fly and your comment sent me over the edge! My very good laugh for the day!! I have always wanted to do the very same thing! (fly through the sky), and my husband thinks I'm crazy!! Skydiving, parasailing, and hanggliding, ect, have always been such a dream. Just never had the opportunity, than with the great wt. problem, and bad hips, I just never considered it could be. I have lots of glorious flying dreams, tho! BUT, you have just put a bee in my flying bonnett. When I am thin, I am going to do it!!! Want to help? I think you will inspire me, girl! Thank you for your testimony, and sharing you wonderful brand of humor and insight!! Love it!! You feel like an old friend, and am sure we will be a help to one another in our journey! Have a wonderful day, and God bless you, Kathy B in Idaho (spent a lot of years in Ca. when hubby was in the Navy)
