Hi. I am thinking about getting a Medic Alert bracelet. Do any of you wear one? If so, what did you have put on it? What style of bracelet would you recommend? I would appreciate any information you care to share. Thanks and God bless. Peg

Hi Peg, I've been thinking about that too. I heard that there was a website that has them, but I can't remember what it is. I'll be interested in any info that you find out, too. Thanks! Love ya', Cindy

Good morning, Peg I don't wear one, but I have a friend that has had WLS and she wears one. I had talked to my doctor about getting one and he told me that I should have "NO BLIND NG TUBE" and my doctors phone number. That should be enough, unless you have other problems that need to be noted(allergies to meds, etc). There is a web site called Laura's Hope or something like that. They carry some real nice braclets for women. Some even serve as watches as well. Good luck in your search. I hope I was help. God bless you, Ken

Hi Peg!! It's funny you ahould ask, as I just finished looking on the net for the very same thing. There are a couple or more options.First, YES!! I think it is vital for us all to wear id bracelets!! If we are found unconcious and in need of being intubated for any reason, the paramedics could force that tube right thru our pouch. Also, one of the indicators that a tube ha**** either the stomach or the lungs, is presence or abcense of gastric fluids. Well, You see the problem. I think it important enough that I am going to get a bracelet before I even have the surgery. Now, there are plenty of companys out there(look under medical alert jewelry), taht will have cheap to very expensive stuff. Whatever you want. I looked it all aver and decided to go to my local pharmacy instead and buy my first one. It will be $30. or less, and I can decide later if I want to use a necklace, charms, watch, or whatever. The one I like looks like an id bracelet, and it has a compartment with a medical card area, as well as the red cross on the top. I engourage anyone reading this to always wear an id bracelet if you have diabetes, allergies to meds., WLS(and list which type, by the way), etc. The saddest deaths have to be those that could soooo easily have been prevented!! Love you all, Kathy B

Hi Kathy! Thank you so much for the info! I carry a medical card in my purse and it even shows how my internal organs are arranged now but I really think a medical bracelet is a good idea! I am so happy you have joined us! What a blessing you are!! I love you! God Bless, Lynda Phil. 4:8

I think the medic alert bracelet or necklace would be a good idea. I don't have one yet and just have my info in my wallet but in event of an emergency who knows if that would be with you for sure... Anyway I also saw this discussed on the main board once and some were mentioning that the really pretty ones might not be noticed as being medic alert bracelets. I don't know, I guess it depends on the type...just something to keep in mind.

Dear Peg, Prior to my surgery I wore a medic alert necklace. I do need to update my information. Medic alert now offers something similar to a key fob that connects directly to a computer and shares your medical history with hospital staff. I cannot locate my flyer so I can't give the price on it. I hope this helps. Kathy from MO
