About the Exercise???Help Needed.
Hi everyone, and Happy New Year!! As i do my level best to prepare for this surgery, I am wondering about the exercise. I know the best results come with proper nutrition, exercise and water, water, water . My problem is with my hips, and even when I was thinner, walking for any length of time was a problem. Now I know that as I get down into the 100's, it will be easier, but what until than? I did buy a rebounder, but that too causes pain when I get beyond a few minutes of bouncing. I can go to the Pool, but the nearest one is 45 miles one way, so that is difficult more that 1xa week. Did some of you have a similar problem and come up with something to keep those muscles from deteriorating in those first few weeks until there was enough wt. loss to ease the exercising? I really want to do the very best I can to plan for success! Thank-you all ahead, and hope to hear from you!! Oh, I just have to share this! For Christmas, my youngest daughter (newly married in Oct), and her DH bought tickets to take us to the Seattle showing of the newest Circ de Soliel (spelling?) in May. We are so tickled! My doughter( who is 6'tall and 140lbs.) and beautiful by the way, said she also wants us to go shopping in a great Seattle shop for a new SMALLER dress to wear to the show!! What a blessing to have such great support! I will be 3 1/2 mo. out than and it will be great to have had such a good start. Life is already looking better!! Praise God! Love, Kathy
Happy New Year, Kathy. I was thinking about your situation. The pool is the best choice, but I understand it is a long way from your home. Can you use an exercise bike? I ride one that is called a recumbant (spelling?) one that is easier on your back because you lean back. When I was at my heaviest, I could only walk 1/2 block without my back killing me. I took lots of Tylenol and just kept going. Unfortunately, you may just have to walk through the pain. I sure will pray that you get pain relief so that you are able to exercise. God bless you always.

It sounds like Water Aerobics will be the best thing for you. I go to our local rehabilitation center. The water temperature is 92.5 and is AWESOME. So relaxing and easy on your joints. You are getting your cardio and strength training all in one!! Besides that, it's fun!!!! Check with your local rehab center, parks and recreation or YMCA. I started taking Water Aerobics classes just before WLS and to date have lost 141 lbs and have gone from a 32/34 dress down to a 18W (depending on how it's made a size 16!!) So far I have not had a lot of trouble with the hanging skin. The water is a big help in firming it up. (Don't get me wrong, I do have some, but it's not as bad considering the amount of weight I have lost).
I'll be praying for you!
peace and God bless!

Kathy, I have a similar problem. I have bursitus in both of my hips and plantar fasiatis in my feet. Walking is very painful. People never seem to get that!!!! Walking is supposed to be good for everyone. I have a
Tony Little's Gazelle glider, that seems to be very good way to get some excercise with very low impact, my hips take it pretty well. I am bad about being faithful. But check it out on the web or buy one second hand from ebay. The are much less than a treadmill and alot easier on the hips. God bless your excercise! J.Marie
