I have a date! AND new on this forum.
Hello everyone!! I am in ID., Dr. Oakley is my surgeon. I have a date for Jan 16th. I have been on oh site some, and have been so happy to see a place to share with my Christian sisters!! This has been a very difficult decision, wondering if it's what God would have me do, but I seem to have my answer at this point, and am sooooo excited! It will be so nice to have you all to talk too, and pray with! I am 56yo, and way overdue for the weight loss. My hips are bad, increasing BP, HI chol., and sleep apnea. Sure would like to be rid of that elephant nose at night!! My husband uses a cpap too, tho, so we just kiss goodnight and laugh about it. Well I hope to hear from someone soon. My question right now is, will I need someone at the house to help me? My daughter from Seattle has said she will come down, and I am tempted to let her, just for her company as my husb. will have to get back to work after a few days. Thanks to you all for being there! Kt B
I did okay by myself after about three days. I had an open RNY with a good 5 in. incision. I actually enjoyed the quite time after everyone was gone, back to their routine and I had time to myself. But we're all different about our needs in after care.
BTW, congrads on your surgery date and welcome to OH Chrisitian Forum.

WELCOME TO THE FORUM KT. I AM 59, HAD MY SURGERY LAST YEAR. I DID FINE BUT WAS IN A LOT OF PAIN WHEN I CAME HOME AND WAS GLAD TO HAVE MY DAUGHTER WITH ME. SHE WAS A BIG HELP AND HAVING THE COMPANY FOR A COUPLE DAYS WAS NICE. CONGRATULATIONS ON THE SURGERY DATE. DON'T TAKE MUCH TO THE HOSPITAL, THEY HAVE EVERYTHING YOU NEED, I DIDN'T USE ANYTHING I TOOK EXCEPT MY SLIPPERS. EVEN THEIR GOWNS ARE MORE CONVENIENT THAN USING YOUR OWN. GOD BLESS, TRUDY
Welcome & God bless! We are glad that you found us! I was 450 pounds when I had my surgery 2 months ago and I needed help with all of my personal care. My husband was with me in the hospital and did everything for me and also for the first two weeks at home. It just depends on the person as to how much care they will need. Keep in touch! Cindy
Hi KtB~
Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your January 16 surgery date. I can relate to your struggle about the decision to have surgery. I had some difficult moments spiritually equating altering my bodily functions from the way God created them. However, I experienced so many "open door miracles" during my preop preparation that I knew God was controlling my journey.....and still does daily. I was 53 when I had Lap RNY two years ago tomorrow. I did not have sleep apnea...but I shared your other maladies. I am so much healthier.....and happier today!
My surgery was on Monday 12/15/03....I was home on Thursday and Friday I was at the mall finishing my Christmas shopping. I started walking immediately gradually increasing my distance and time....I tired easily for awhile and had to take afternoon naps...something I was not accustomed to doing, but with the weight loss came renewed energy.
Have a great day and again, congratulations.

Hi KtB~
Welcome to our forum!!! ((you will love it here))
I wish I could give you advice, but I am in the same boat as you. I'm 26 and I have 2 kids. My son is no problem, but my daughter is only 18 mons old and requires a lot from me. We can't afford to put her in daycare while I'm recovering. I guess I'll have to continue my roll as "Super-Mom". My doctor only does open RNY so I'm sure I am in for a long ride!!
God bless,
Dawn
Hi KT,
Welcome to the Christianity board, where there's always room for more. Congratulations on your date. This is one of the best things that has happened to me My kid's were home in the evening, A friend came by to put my grandson on the school bus for me, and to get him off of the bus, and watch him after school untill his momma came home. I enjoyed the rest of the time to myself just to rest and not have to concern myself about taking care of everyone else for a little bit. Best wishes on your continued journey.
God bless you,
Annette
Hi Kt B! WELCOME! You are on a board with a great bunch of people who love the Lord and pray!
I had surgery 8 weeks ago and I am doing very well. I had HBP, diabetes, and on a CPAP at night too. I am no longer on my HBP or diabetes meds. I still use my CPAP but it is on the very lowest setting now! My husband is on the CPAP too but he is thin so he will probably be on it the rest of his life. I know if someone came into our room at night we would probably scare them with the swishing sounds and little red lights - I'm sure we look like aliens!
Probably a good idea to have help after surgery - for me more than anything to have the moral support and company and to help me make decisions because everything seemed so different. But it is also nice to have time to yourself. After just a few days you are pretty much able to do everything you were doing before surgery (barring any complications) except eat! But I discover more and more that no two surgeries are the same and what works for one doesn't necessarily work for another. I have to turn everyday to the Lord because my days aren't even the same. One day I will be able to eat something and it tastes great and stays down and the next day it is the worse thing I could eat and up it comes! One day I have energy, the next I just want to sleep. Listen to your body and don't be afraid to ask for help!
Again welcome and please keep us posted! I will be praying for your upcoming surgery. Love ya!
God Bless,
Lynda

Hi Kt B. Welcome! I too am 56 years old. This board is such a wonderful support system. I know you will like it here. I agree with the others that it is a good idea to have help around the house for afterwards. I always think it is better to err on the side of caution. You can always send them home if you don't need the help, but it isn't as easy to arrange for last-minute help. May the Lord keep you in His tender care as you prepare yourself for your upcoming surgery.
