Dear Faithful One,
I remember the year when I lost someone close to me. I would walk past the hallmark cards in the store and every card that referred to the relationship with my loved one sent a dagger through my heart. Although I was in the midst of the joyous activities around me, it was as if I slipped into another world. I found myself escaping into some inner room in my memory bank where I sat alone with my loved one. I just wanted to float away into eternity where our two hearts would beat as one. But oh the pain of being transported back to reality and to feel the stark absence of one so dear to our heart! Oh faithful one, is someone missing from your life? What comfort can we get from God's Word to soothe the agony of a missing person?
Num 31:48-50 reads "Then the officers who were over the units of the army - the commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds - went to Moses and said to him, "Your servants have counted the soldiers under our command, and not one is missing." NIV Observe the words "not one is missing."
Jer 23:4 reads "I will place shepherds over them who will tend them, and they will no longer be afraid or terrified, nor will any be missing," declares the LORD. " NIV. Observe the words "nor will any be missing."
Isa 40:26 reads "Lift your eyes and look to the heavens: Who created all these? He who brings out the starry host one by one, and calls them each by name. Because of his great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing." NIV
Did you see the words "not one of them is missing"? Did you also see the words that it is "because of his power and mighty strength" that not one of them is missing?
Oh the comfort to know from God's Word that it matters to God that "not one of them is missing." More than that, everything and everyone God created was designed to be part of a whole. Whether in an army, in a community, in a family or in the display of stars in the sky, each unit was not created to stand alone but to be part of a grand design. When someone is missing who was meant to be part of the whole, God sees the missing piece. We are not alone in feeling the absence. However, unlike us who may not have the power to change the situation, the God who has the power and mighty strength who calls each starry host one by one and by name, has the power and mighty strength to know each of us by name. Our loneliness will not last forever. By God's design, He will bring us to a place where "not one of them is missing." Oh Faithful One, God has spoken His truth to us through His Word. The question then becomes, "Do you believe it and will you receive it?"
I pray this devotion encouraged you in a special way. When I pray for you, I hear a victory song. I believe in you because I believe in the power of God's Word in you as you put His Word into action.
Love, Anita
