'Twas a Night Like No Other 'Twas a Night Like No Other Adapted from Luke 2:1-20 and based on the poem, "'Twas the Night Before Christmas," adapted from Luke 2:1-20 by Fred Gagnon 'Twas a night like no other and here on the Earth, God was getting things ready for Jesus Christ's birth. The sheep, cows and donkeys, in snug beds of hay, weren't making a sound, not a baa, moo or bray. My wife in her nightclothes and I warmly wrapped had just settled down for a peaceful eve's nap. When there came at our door a loud knocking chatter that made us spring up to see what was the matter. I opened the door and thought, Who could this be? It's such a late hour, at least twelve-o-three. And there on my steps it surprised me to see a stranger named Joseph and his wife, Mary. Is there room at your inn?? Joseph asked with great worry, for my wife is about to give birth in a hurry! My heart poured with sorrow. No, I wasn't ill-willed when I told him that every last room had been filled. Tiny Bethlehem is now a crowded place, with Rome trying to count the whole human race. My wife cleared her throat, she had something to say, I have an idea for a place you can stay.? She warned them: It's surely not fancy or bright, but the place is warm enough to spend the night.? As we showed the way to our barn so uncouth I heard some lambs prance, a mule pawing its hoof. When I drew my head in I thought, What a disgrace if young Mary gave birth in this filthy old place. The girl looked tired from her head to her foot, and Joseph was covered with dirt and with soot. Then a bundle of hay he flung on his back to make a warm bed from the soft and dry stack. My wife said to her: Sleep if you are able. I will take care of you here in our stable. Later that night my wife came home delighted. The baby's here!? she squealed, very excited. It's a boy! His name's Jesus; a manger's His bed! At those words I recalled what Isaiah had said, Behold, a young maiden will some day give birth, her child is God's special gift to the Earth. I wondered if Mary's child might be the one when a star in the east glowed as bright as the sun. I spoke not a word but went straight to the manger and fell on my knees before this newborn stranger. Soon came some poor shepherds who joined me in prayer. They told me that angels had guided them there. As they watched their flocks, heavenly voices did sing: The Savior was born: Prince of Peace, Christ the King! Then we all did exclaim on this calm, holy night, Peace to people on Earth on whom God's love shines bright! I thought this was a joy to read, hope you do too!! In His Love, Steph

Thanks, Steph. This was so nice to read. Isn't this a wonderful time of year to think about our dear Savior coming to earth as a baby? I love babies! God bless! Peg
