I'm new
Hello
I'm in the workup stage and looking into the lap band surgery. I will be seeing the surgeon on the 22nd of November. My first appointment will be this Friday with the Gastroenterolgist.
I am glad I found this forum.
Some fellow church members do not seem to like the idea of this. Those who have been close to me understand best, and support me. It's God's will that really matters.
God bless you,
Kristine
Welcome to our little family! You will find lots of support here. We try to have a roll call everyday and anybody can start it. Its a way for us to check in with each other everyday and tell each other what we've been going through so that we can lift each other up in prayer. Right now there are several of us here posting that are newly post op. Although I think most of us had RNY. But it should still give you a good idea of newly post op life. To tell you the truth, lately I have been wishing that I had done the lapband. Hopefully, I won't feel this way forever. Anyway...welcome the board. I pray it will be as much of a blessing to you as it has been to me.
Blessings! Jacinda
Hi Kristine,
Welcome to the board. This is a thread that was posted a while back. I thought it may be of help to you. To me this surgery is a gift from God. He has given us a lifesaving procedure. I'm not going to turn down a gift from my God. If it were any other kind of surgery it would be accetable.
God bless you,
Annette

Hello all, I'm new to this board, and just wanted to pose a question, that was asked of me? Please let me know what do you think?
How do you respond to other believers who have the notion that having WLS is not something a man/woman of faith shouldn't do, and that it shows lack of discipline???

We are ALL weak in the flesh. I am sorry that within the brethren we have to struggle with legalism.
The Lord , (in Proverbs) instructs to seek cousel, persue wisdom and do good. Your(our) weight stood in the way of serving the Lord, and he provides a way out, you took it. That was courageous and wise.
But now the devil is whispering in your ear and reminding you of your weakness and/or failures. Just keep your lovely eyes focused on our Lord and Savior, thank him for his rescue (WLS) and just serve him, serve him and serve him some more.
No one understand the woes of an obese person except aother obese person. And that's why we're here.
We love ya'
Sally

Hi Indie,
To respond to other believers and non~belivers who may make ask the same thing, you can say to them let's look in the bible and see what it says. Read matthew 5:29. Then read Matthew 18:9. Then perhaps you could read starting at Mark 9:43 which says(and I quote from the N.I.V.)
"and if your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life maimed than with two hands to go into Hell, where the fire never goes out. And if your foot causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life crippled than to have two feet, and be thrown into Hell. And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than to have two eyes, and be thrown into Hell, where "their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched"." Now the Bible is telling us that if our body part's are causing us to sin then we should cut them off, or pluck them out. Is that fair to say? Yes. We as S.O., M.O., and obese people Are using our stomach's for sin (the sin of gluttony), therefore we should cut them off.
That is what we are doing through our surgeons. Right? So what I say is ~If your stomach causes you to sin ~ cut it off, It is better to enter into life with a pouch, than than have a giant stomach and be thrown into Hell. I hope this helps.
God bless you,
Annette

That was exactly my thought when I read this thread, Annette. That passage is what finally convinced me that, yes, God was leading me to this.

Hi Indie. You have had some great replies. I hate that people have to get so judgmental in times like this. God brings healing in many different ways and I KNOW beyond a shadow of a doubt that He lead me to have WLS! I was taking 13 pills a day and now I am on one. God is not a half way God either. I know I will come off of that one pill. I had heart surgery and heart trouble before this surgery. W/O WLS, I was miserable and suffered. God promised me healing! I never knew He would bring it like this and also help me to become thin in the process! Praise God for His healing!!!! Randall
Hi Kristine. I too welcome you aboard. You will find lots of good support here and great information. Most of all you will find a bunch of caring Christians who pray for each other. I pray that you will make the decision that is right for you, with God's help. Do keep posting on how you are doing. I found posting to my own profile page has helped me a lot. God bless and keep you.

Hi Kristine~
WELCOME! I know what you mean. The response I have received has been tepid at best. I am praying that God will sustain me through the initial response period. The thing that gets me through is the support of my family and close network of friends. I find when I am bolstered with their love and support I can handle the not so supportive responses of others.
I pray you have a supportive group around you!
Blessings~
Becky
