October 20, 2005 Contact with Christ should set our hearts on fire and consume our lives with love for him and his kingdom. Thursday of the Twenty-Ninth Week in Ordinary Time Father Michael Goodyear, LC Luke 12:49-53 Jesus said to his disciples: "I have come to set the earth on fire, and how I wi**** were already blazing! There is a baptism with which I must be baptized, and how great is my anguish until it is accomplished! Do you think that I have come to establish peace on the earth? No, I tell you, but rather division. From now on a household of five will be divided, three against two and two against three; a father will be divided against his son and a son against his father, a mother against her daughter and a daughter against her mother, a mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law." Introductory Prayer: Lord, is it possible that I come to this moment day-in and day-out and not be changed? Is it possible that I sit at your feet in this daily mediation and not be moved? Is it possible that I get up from prayer again and again only to return to the life I left without some remnant of your grace remaining in my soul and therefore in my actions? Lord, I want to leave this meditation changed, transformed, different, and more like you. If you wish, you can cure me, fill me, strengthen me, transform me. What am I holding back? All my hope is in you. Increase my love for you so that it will leave me restless until I come to rest in you.
