Hello Everyone For those of you who are christians and participate in fasting, have you found that this works against your weight loss? I realize that in order to lose weight, we must eat certain protein amounts to be successful. I have been fasting alot lately and I think it's causing me to plateau.. does anyone have an answer pertaining to this?

Hi LaKisha, I don't know how it works, but if you don't get enough protein in, it can cause the weight loss to slow down and sometimes even stop. This is one of the many things I've learned from the Mi. board. You have to get your protein and water in and you have to take your vitamins. Fasting can definitely have a direct effect on you simply because of the nature of this surgery. How often are you fasting and for how long? You are in my prayers. God bless, Annette

Hi LaKisha. This is my "personal" view on fasting for christians. God doesn't hold us to only food fasting. We can pick anything that we enjoy and love to fast from. It could be something personal to us. In example, food as a norm, but T.V., the computer (which has a bigger hold on me than food, reading other than the Word, sewing, golf, whatever. I feel that for us, God knows our heart and He loves us. God bless! Randall

My post-op fasting consists of actually regressing to earlier post-op stages. I go to liquids only or pureed foods. That way, I keep my protein up with shakes, but also am making a needed sacrifice. Katie

LaKisha, When you fast, it puts your body in starvation mode and your weight loss will slow or stop all together for a certain amount of time. One way to prevent or counteract that is to drink protein shakes as your liquid intake during your fast. That way you get both your protein to keep you strong and the scale moving in the right direction, and can participate in your fast. Hope that helps.
