Prayers for a newborn in trouble!
My husband's cousin had her baby on Monday - little Ali (Alixandra) did well for the first day and 1/2, then she started throwing up blood. She's now in the NICU at St. John's, on antibiotics, Vitamin K, and has had to have a blood transfusion. The still do not know what is causing the blood loss. Very scary.
She was at 38 weeks I think. They had been monitoring the mom for pre-eclampsia for about 2 weeks, but nothing else out-of-the ordinary. Her water broke early Monday morning, easy labor, had her naturally only 2 hours after her water breaking.
We went up to the hospital to visit the parents last night. Baby Ali is stable, however, they still don't have any diagnosis or answers. The mom was released from the hospital, and they'll be staying at the Ronald McDonald house across the street (they live approx an hour away). Prayers are still needed - and I appreciate all the support. Katie
Friday update on baby Ali. This is the message I received from my husband's Aunt early this morning.
I tried to return your call from your work phone, but I was too late. You had gone for the day. Each step of care for Ali is a 24 hour wait and see procedure, as I am sure you know. Thursday, the suction was removed from the GI tube. After 24 hours, if no new bleeding, the GI tube will be removed. If after another 24 hours, no new bleeding, she will be fed. (finally) If after 24 hours, no new bleeding, etc., etc. The pediatrician told them the best case scenario is a dismissal next Wed, July 27. I spoke with Wells this morning and they are beginning now to realize the need to rest and eat. (for themselves) They are on every church prayer list in town, and they can sense that. Their faith remains strong, and they continue to give God the praise and credit for all of this. Thank you all for your continued support. They are at their best when people are around, or calling, etc. Those of you who have been through difficult times know the strength and comfort you receive from friends and loved ones.Thank you all from the bottom of my heart. Even if I can't be with you in your difficult times, I am thankful that I can be with you in prayer, which after all, is the most important.
