Fibromyalgia

I was wondering if anyone has had WLS that is afflicted with fibromyalgia. I have several forms of fibromyalgia and can hardly move most of the time. I am supposed to avoid stress, but I know the emotional issues post-op will be extremely stressful. I will be scheduling my surgery for some time in April. I am very excited about the RNY GB. Everyone in my family is against me having the surgery because of my poor health. My husband is scared for me, but wants me to be healthy and happy. If anyone can share their experience or just offer support, I would really appreciate it.

I don't suffer from FM but can relate to worry/stress affecting your recovery and health. I can only suggest that looking at WLS as the beginning a of wonderful adventure into a happier and healthier life., is the beginning. Also my I suggest, you let your husband know that you need him to be excited with and for you. Keep your thoughts on the positive and fantisize about being thin. You'll get there and your victory over fat and other helath problems will be that much sweeter. I will pray that you feel more confident about your decision and excited about the beautiful days that lay ahead. Be sure that you are up to the temptation of depression and the dealing with pain for a few days. Keep a positive attitude and the Lord will just keep blessing you day after day. Good Luck Sweetheart, Sally

I have a friend who has this but has always been thin. I see how she suffers at times, I know this can be very painful. I have also seen many people on the main board talk about having Fibromyalgia and WLS. So I know there are people out, I just don't know what their outcome was post-op. PS. Do you know any "Bishop" family history?

Thanks for your response. My husband is the true Bishop. He knows a lot of family history. His family is huge!

I have one friend who suffered from "fibromyalgia" who had WLS. She oddly enough has no symptoms now that she is at a normal weight. I think she was misdiagnosed (that is why I used the quotation marks) and her symptoms were caused by her extra weight. I have thin friends with fibromyalgia also. Anyhow, I believe that losing the extra weight will in itself take stress off of your body and only help your symptoms. I had horrible joint and muscle pain, fatigue, chronic headaches, etc. before my surgery. I was tested for lupus and other autoimmune disorders but everything was negative. Since losing the weight I feel better. I still have some back and neck pain which I see a chiropractor for. I attribute these pains to my profession as a nurse, where I do a lot of lifting. All the other problems have gone away. My vote is to go for the surgery!!! In His love, Sherri 251/157/?

Sherri, Thank you for your response. It does seem that my fibromyalgia is better when I am smaller. I work behind a computer all day, so I am assuming my back and neck pain will still be here after WLS. I might look into seeing a chiropractor as well. Thanks also for your support with the surgery. I feel like I am all alone with my decision to have WLS. I am very excited about the journey I will be taking. I wish my family were excited, too. God bless.

Joy, do what you feel is right for you. I know I had family members who weren't so thrilled wiht me going through "such a drastic" thing to lose weight, but my health was starting to get so bad that I had to do something to assure the weight would come off and stay off. Now that I have done so well, they are thrilled that I had it done. (Except for my sister-in-law who was my best friend, but now finds ways to hurt my feelings everytime I see her. She is heavy and I guess it is jelousy. Pray for her.) You can come here and we will support you and be your WLS family. You will find nothing but love and support here. God is so awesome because by providing this surgery it has opened doors into ministry that I physically couldn't do before. I am going to Africa on a mission trip in June!!! It has been my hearts desire to serve the Lord in this capacity for many years, and now He is making it possible. Praise Jesus!! Please e-mail me if you want someone you can talk to. I love to have e-pals. In His love, Sherri 251/157/?
