Happy to Meet You!
Hi,
This is the first time that I've posted here. I've been inspired by all of the encouragement I've seen on this board. I just got approved on Friday and there's no turning back now! Hopefully my surgery date will be in August. Any words of wisdom? I'm looking forward to getting to know you all.

Hi Cara.
Congratulations on being approved This is my first time posting in this audience also. My date for surgery is July 21st and I can't wait. The time before I had the approval went by fast. Once approved, the time went even faster until I set the date. Now it seems like the clock is in slow motion Getting all the testing has helped to keep my mind off of my nervousness.
I got all my testing done reasonably quickly so that the results would be back in plenty of time. It came in handy when I accidently mixed up my appointments and missed my upper GI and abdominal sonogram when I went to my pulmonary testing first. Fortunately by scheduling early, I had time to play with and didn't feel at the mercy of the clock.
I also suggest planning your appointment with your nutrionist early so you can get the list of supplements you will need post-surgery. It allowed me to have time to shop around for the better prices. Being a wife, mother (to 3) and a full-time employee, I thrive off of schedules and planning ahead.
Good luck and K.I.T. I'll be praying for you!

Sandy,
Thanks for the tip on seeing the nutritionist early. The hospital I'm having my surgery at has an all day class lead by dieticians that go over all of the ins and outs of eating before and after surgery. I'm really looking forward to it because I have a lot of questions.
Wow! July 21st, that's coming up fast! I will be praying for you, too!
Cara
Cara,
Thanks for your prayers. I'm not to proud to ask that you pray for me. Since signing up on this website, I have such a long prayer list and I love it. It's great knowing that there are so many others out there going through what you are. It's really amazing that so many people are so supportive of what you are doing.
Be sure to ask for samples in your class. A lot of the nutrionists are supplied with freebies to advertise their products during their sessions. You can have the opportunity to test the product before spending the money on them for yourself. Also, my Dr. highly recommended that I go to the support group meeting. When I went, I was shy and quiet. I just listened, but I listened well. Others were actually asking the very same questions I had burning in my throat but was too shy to ask. It just so happens that the group in my area is about 150 strong at every meeting. Both my Dr. and the nutrionist lead the meetings. Basically, it was an open forum where the conversations were faciliated. I walked away from that meeting so elated. I had a burden lifted from me. If you have the time before your surgery, I urge you to drop in on a meeting. You will walk away with more knowledge and a good feeling that you want to become "a big loser."
Hang in there and keep your eyes above. I'm claiming the victory over my surgery. TTFN.
