Eucharist--Catholic question

I am concerned about receiving communion after surgery. I do not want to make a bad decision. Have others received or stopped receiveing due to RNY? I have not talked with my priest as we are getting a new one at the end of the month. The last thing I want is to give up the specialness of this relationship. I receive both His body and Precious Blood. Should I ask my preist about intinction? I really need help!

I'm only guessing, but I'll bet that the amounts you'll take aren't enough to have a negative effect. Especially after 4 or more weeks. Good question for your surgeon though.

Jennifer, That is a really good question. We take communion at our church once a month, and it is more of a tiny cracker and then grape juice! Yikes... I would think that the little wafer you take in Catholic church wouldn't be enough quantity to do any damage, nor would the cracker that we use, but I have to wonder about the grape juice! I will ask my friend at church who has had the surgery if she has had any problems. You should ask your surgeon to be sure though!

I believe if you go to the question and answer part of the board you will find a lot of discussion about communion and the eucharist. I have taken communion in my church with the small wafer and small little sip of grape juice and I was fine. Our Heavenly Father knows our heart and perhaps He intervenes for us as we remember our Lord...
