Lord of the Living and the Dead

Romans 14:7-12

Have you submitted to Christ's rule over your life? His authority causes anger or fear in individuals who have not yet yielded to Him, but those who have experienced His lovingkindness, trusted in His goodness, and surrendered to His authority take comfort in knowing Him as the Lord of their lives. 

I have to confess that submitting to the Lordship of Christ did not come easily.  It has been my experience that I related to God in the same way I related to my parents, and perceived HIS love for me the way my parents treated me.  I did not have the best parents in that respect.  My parents loved me, but they were not healthy emotionally.  Dad was a violent alcoholic.  Mom was bipolar, and somewhat of a shrew.  I still struggle in my relationship with her. 

Given that background, I had trouble trusting that God would be any different than my own parents.  He used a dear Christian friend to show me His love and acceptance of me.  She guided me in learning about His unconditional love and forgiveness.  Once I realized that and experienced His grace, I willingly submitted to His plan for me.
