The Message the World Needs to Hear

Mark 16:15-20

Suppose I asked what the mission of the church is—how would you answer? Although the church accomplishes many tasks, its only message to the world is the gospel of Christ. Everything else we do is merely an extension of that primary goal. The gospel we offer the lost is superior to every worldly philosophy. Never outdated or in need of correction, it is always sufficient to meet humanity's greatest need: reconciliation with the Creator.

Today's meditation comes for In Touch Ministries, by Dr. Charles Stanley.

I am challenged by this devotion, because I am not that good at sharing the gospel, in some relationships.  I try to be genuine and honest with all of my friends.  I don't separate myself from people.  I am active in AA, and when opportunity presents itself, I am open about the Lord Jesus being my Higher Power.

A few weeks ago, I was walking my dog by the Delaware River, and a woman parked her car near me, and came up to me and asked me to read an article in the pamphlet she was carrying.  She was friendly, and kind.  The pamphlet was a Watchtower, published by the Jehovah's Witnesses.  I envied this woman's boldness, in being able to walk up to me, a total stranger, and share her faith with me.  But then, I realized, I have certain Spiritual gifts that allow me to share God's love to people that some in our society would not have anything to do with, like addicts, alcoholics and the homeless.  So, I can love these people, and give them hope in an emotional way that others may be unable to.

How do you share God with your neighbors?  Are you bold, like the nice lady I met down the river, or more indirect?  Do you use your Spiritual gifts to reach people for the Lord?

Hugs,
Trish

Seek always to do some good, somewhere. Every man has to seek in his own way to realize his true worth. You must give some time to your fellow man. For remember, you don't live in a world all your own. Your brothers are here too.
