Who Am I? As a disciple, I am a friend of Jesus Christ.
John 15:15 | As a disciple, I am a friend of Jesus Christ. |
Friends are a strange concept for kids who grow up in dysfunctionality. My role model, Mom mainly, would talk about everyone behind their back, and even had assaulted former friends. So, I never really did well with friendships, though I longed for them. Trust is so hard, because of old patterns.
Comprehending what it means to be a friend of Christ is a learning process. Praise the Lord that I had the courage, as a younger Christian, to ask a dear Christian woman to disciple/mentor me. She has been such a blessing to me. She has never rejected me, even when I have shared my deepest, darkest secrets. She has loved me when I stepped away from God's will and plan for me. She has accepted me, unconditionally. This has been one of the key things that has helped me trust the Lord, and grow in my understanding of Jesus as a friend.

Hi, Trish & Karyn. :)
I love John 15:15. I can tell you the very moment when I realized what a good friend I had in Jesus.
During one of the worst nights of my life, trying to come to terms with having been an abused wife, and trying to recover from yet another nightmare about him, I was sitting on my living room floor (had no furniture, except a crib for my daughter and a twin bed for me). I needed to hear from the Lord, but I didn't know where to look. I just prayed and said that to the Lord, and told Him I was going to just open the Bible and point, and, as silly as that was, I asked Him to honor my desire to hear from Him.
I did just that. I opened the Bible and pointed. My finger landed on Luke 22:31-32. I had never read those verses before, but I needed them so much! Jesus is speaking, "Simon, Simon, Satan has desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat. But I have prayed for you, that your faith fail not. And when you are delivered, strengthen the brethren."
I didn't know that Jesus prayed for me. Since then, I've learned that He sits at the right hand of the Father, interceding for us. What better friend can we have, and not only does He pray for us, He calls us His friends! Amazing!
I want to tell you girls that God is on the move! Today, an OH gal from Canada called me. I shared scripture with her, and she prayed to receive Jesus as Savior. I told her that she should tell someone. Later, I got on Facebook, and she had written that she was saved, along with today's date and the time she prayed. How precious is that. She has over 100 Facebook friends, so many will see that. Please pray for S.H., that she will find a good, Bible-believing local church. Pray, too, that her 2 teenagers will find Jesus. She is a precious lady, y'all.
Blessings,
Mary
