Hi Everyone,
I am in the middle of reading an excellent book on the topic of mental health and Christianity. It is written by a Christian psychiatrist.

It's called, "Why Do Christians Shoot Their Wounded?"

I hope you don't mind me posting this. I have never been this excited about a book on this topic before.

Hi, Trish.
While I've not read this book, I recognize that Christians can be very legalistic with one another and judgmental.
Having said that, it's also true that Christians are often the worst ones to counsel, as we can take things so personally. It's like we want to hear, "It's okay. You'll be fine. Just do your best," when what we need to hear is, "Either you believe God's Word or you don't." That includes issues of mental health, too, for there's no area outside the Bible's sphere of influence.
The Bible talks about "iron sharpening iron." Well, that's what we're to do for one another, and if you watch that process, it's loud and causes sparks. :)
I can't tell you how many times I've heard people bring up Jesus' saying to the woman caught in adultery, "Neither do I condemn you," to say, "God doesn't condemn what I'm doing. He doesn't judge me." What they tend to forget is what Jesus said to her next, "Go, and sin no more."
Thanks for sharing about the book. I love hearing what people are reading. :)
Blessings,
Mary
